Shuichi pushed away from Kokichi, covering his red face with his hands. "You got some competition Rantaro, he's an amazing kisser for a virgin!~" Kokichi teased, crawling over to lean on the greenette's shoulder. At least he thinks I'm alright at kissing.
"Does this mean you've thought about our proposition Shuichi?" Rantaro asked, rubbing the sleep from his eyes. Well, I have but am I really worth their time and love?
"You have that face again. Don't you dare say you aren't worth it, because I only choose the best boyfriends, and you too I guess 'Mami," Kokichi chuckled.
"Wow, you hurt me Ko," Rantaro grinned. "Are you alright Sai?" He asked, leaning forward to hold Shuichi's hand.
How do I talk about this? "U-Um, well, I like you guys... A lot, but I'm a bit worried about the situation we're in." Shuichi sighed, glad he managed to put his thoughts into speech, "but, I'm willing to try a relationship."
"Perfect! Just don't push yourself Shumai!" Kokichi grinned, jumping on the bluenette and enveloping him in a tight hug.
"If it doesn't work out, don't worry about it, okay? We'll understand," Rantaro smiled. Shuichi nodded, glad the situation turned out better than he thought.
"Does this mean we're boyfriends then?" Shuichi asked timidly. Rantaro and Kokichi nodded, the trio smiling at each other with warm and caring love.
"Guys, wake up we- Oh, you're already awake," Shirogane slammed open the door, interrupting the two. "Something is wrong with Harukawa, please hurry!" She shouted, running out of the room. Shuichi could hear her footsteps thud down the hallway, presumably towards Harukawa. Without thinking, the ex-detective jumped off the bed and followed Shirogane into Harukawa's shared room with Shirogane and Akamatsu.
"Harukawa, what's the matter?" Shuichi asked, seeing no unusual symptoms appearing on the female.
"Headache, dizzy, nauseous," she mumbled, lowering her head in between her knees. Shuichi hurried to the nearest bathroom down the hall, promising the woman he'd return. Finding the medicine cabinet, Shuichi grabbed a small, thin pocket torch. It would be considered odd to have one in a medicine cabinet, but his uncle had decided it couldn't hurt, especially after Shuichi attempted to overdose on narcotics as a teenager. Rushing back to Harukawa's side, he carefully lifted her chin, turning on the torch.
"I'm going to flash a light into your eyes, is that alright?"
"Yes, that's fine," she mumbled, staring into Shuichi's eyes as he flashed the torch in and out of her eyes periodically. Just as I thought, her pupils are too dilated, they're not reacting normally to the light.
"Oi, what's up your ass Ran-Ran?" Kokichi grinned, poking at Rantaro's shoulder. Shuichi turned to ask the smaller to be quiet for Harukawa's sake but noticed the unusually pale greenette beside him. That's the face a guilty man holds when they're withholding information.
"I'm so sorry guys, Harukawa told me not to say anything, but I have to," Rantaro swayed from side to side, clearly uncomfortable. "When Shuichi and Kokichi broke into Saihara's office, someone sprayed something into her face, I'm certain she breathed in some sort of chemical."
"How much of the chemical?" Shuichi asked, turning his body and attention to the male.
"A lot? I don't know how you'd measure it. It was more of a squirt than a spray," Rantaro sighed, staring at the floor. This is awful, why wouldn't she tell us?! Although, I'd do the same thing in her situation. "We might need a doctor, I'm sorry for letting it get this far."
"I threatened to kill you if you said anything, no one should blame you," Harukawa interrupted, her voice soft and shaky. Well, we can't go and see a doctor, but maybe there's another thing we can do... Rushing to his uncle's office, now passed down to him, Shuichi rummaged through the reorganised bookshelves for anything about poisons. Finding the target, Shuichi flipped the pages and found Rantaro, showing him the pages.
"Do any of these look familiar to what Harukawa was sprayed with?"
"It looked like water, in a cheap spray bottle from the convenience store," Rantaro shrugged. Shuichi noticed the other male's eyes glisten with tears as one ran down his cheek.
"Hey, don't blame yourself, Harukawa will be just fine, I promise," Shuichi smiled, caressing Rantaro's cheek to cheer up his new boyfriend. I shouldn't make promises like that, after all, there's no end of poisons that this could be. Maybe I should try and find more symptoms? "Harukawa, are you able to stand?" With Akamatsu's aid, the assassin struggled to her feet, holding her head in pain from the movement. "Can you walk towards me?" Shuichi asked, standing only three metres from the woman.
Watching the woman, Shuichi noticed Harukawa struggling to walk towards him, her body off balance. "Why don't you sit back down?" Shuichi asked, he and Akamatsu helping the ill female to her bed, something more comfortable than the floor where she'd curled over when the male found her. "Can I listen to your breathing? I'd need to put my ear to your chest."
"Wow Emo Boy, didn't think you swung that way!~" Kokichi laughed, brightening the room a smidge with his annoying joke. Harukawa nodded to Shuichi, ignoring the small jokester as she straightened her back. Closing his eyes, Shuichi carefully placed his ear against the woman's chest, doing his best to be as respectful as possible. Hmm, that's not normal at all, but I shouldn't tell them, it'll only create more panic. In moments like these, Uncle said it's always okay to lie.
"Saihara? You seem worried, is she okay?" Kiibo asked, snapping the male from his trance.
"Oh sorry, I was just focusing. Everything's alright in that regard, I think I know enough to figure out how to help," Shuichi lied through his teeth. Noticing a proud smirk from someone in the room, the bluenette shot a quick death glare to Kokichi, telepathically telling him not to say a thing. Kokichi nodded, pretending to seal his smiling lips shut. Writing out a list of the poisons in the book he'd taken earlier, Shuichi found three possible substances at fault. "Which one could it be?"
"Let me see that," Kokichi snatched the list and book of poisons from the ex-detective, scanning it for himself. Spinning the book around, he pointed at the paper, scribbles of pen blotting out the original names. "It can't be this one, the most common symptoms is blue fingertips and bloodshot eyes. This one isn't right since it makes your veins more prominent. That leaves..." The male trailed off, encouraging his boyfriend to state the obvious answer.
"Methanol poisoning, but do Harukawa's symptoms match?"
"Symptoms can vary, and who knows what medical conditions she might have that we don't know about? Whatever the case, I have something that might help," Kokichi whispered, dragging Shuichi away from the worried criminals. Fishing around in the pocket of his oversized hoodie, Kokichi pulled out a slip of paper with a successful smirk. "An Ultimate by the name of Tojo Kirumi. From your uncle's research, she was an amazing doctor before being identified as an Ultimate."
"That's great! Where is she now?" Shuichi asked, anxious to help his possibly dying friend.
"She's not going to be easy to get to. Tojo's supposedly being held hostage by that police guy, Soichiro, as his housemaid. Don't know why, most likely a plea deal for her life."
Shuichi held his chin in thought, staring at the ceiling. "Let's do it, we have to try. Harukawa needs us to."
