take the final step
and drop from autumn's sharp winds
into the first frost
eyelids reluctant
to open to winter's cold
buried in blankets
a necessary evil,
winter's calculating eyes,
a cruel coworker
january is
sitting in cold, gray mornings
up before sunrise
my skin dries and cracks
even when safe in mittens
the air sucks out life
wait with bated breath
for the first snowflake to fall
it's disappointing
snow can look the same
there are too many to have
a special snowflake
we hide in warm homes
cold clings to our skin, pinpricks
we shake off the snow
watching wood fires
is like being hypnotized
by a wicked force
the sky burns early
a setting sun to come soon
we sigh in the dark
as icicles form
i feel like a sleigh, dragged out
their melts match my tears
spring's warmth seeps through now
winter's grasp on life caused death
but birds still fly back
this is part of a v long series of haiku abt the seasons (the other parts are already posted).
i wrote this bc i had to write 500 words of structured poetry about change and ended up w a fuckton of haiku and a rlly bad rhyming acrostic i refuse to share. i'm still posting the haiku tho bc i put way too much time into this (it was part of a v big english project that just abt killed me and everyone in my class).
so, here you (meaning the two ppl that still have this in their library) go. sorry for the radio silence but i haven't written anything (good or otherwise) in Ages. i've also mostly disappeared from wattpad (bc school and life and other things like that).
anyway, i hope these are enjoyable and everyone's doing well <3
