a year in haiku: spring

snow melts into rain
not quite summer showers yet
the rebirth begins

april showers bring
worms out of hidden places
stranded on dry ground

the muddy puddle
reminded the old of youth
getting rain boots wet

in a willow tree
the dull bird hoards useless things
to keep hatchlings safe

bushes full of blooms
their caretakers give them life
the garden needs them

potted basil plants
taken out for the first time
they grow in return

when my mother smiles
it's like a shower of sun
the daisies perk up

plaid blanket picnics
on early morning dewdrops
we smile while grass stained

pollen thick as smog
the world turns green, nature free
the bees sound mocking

laughing little girls
pick the honeysuckle vines
to suck the nectar
