It's quite cold

Nightmare was sitting under the tree of feelings, waiting for his brother to come home.
Next to him was a book, it's brown leather cover laying in a blanketpart.
The young guardian was shivering from the cold, as snow slowly fell to the ground like a cold, fluffy and wet blanket.
He had a thin blanket warped around his small body, not enough to protect him from the icy cold he was exposed to.

Not even the villagers decided to bully Nightmare in this weather.
And yet, despite the cold, green leaves from the tree stood out in the white landscape.
The apples weren't even that good visible - the golden apples were surprisingly more visible than the black ones, someone would have thought that it would be the black ones, as the snow was white, but the dark trunk if the tree and a few stones here and there made them almost invisible.

Nightmare sighed slightly and warped the blanket tighter around himself, a tear rolling down his cheek.
It hurt. The cold stung and it hurt. And he couldn't do anything against it, it wouldn't stop.
Nightmare wished he and Dream wouldn't need to live under the tree.
He wished he could go in one of the houses, like the villagers, where it would be warm.
But he knew he and Dream couldn't.
They needed to guard the tree and they couldn't leave this place for long, as someone would try and steal the apples.
Or, at least the golden ones.

The purple guardian closed his eyesockets, still shacking violently.
,,Brother!" He heard a familiar voice. Finally.
Nightmare opened his eyesockets and saw Dream walking with something in his arms to Nightmare.
,,Dream!" Nightmare cheered quietly, as his brother sat down next to him.

Dream smiled at Nightmare and warped the blanket in his arms around himself and Nightmare.
Thankfully cuddled the purple guardian at Dream, before perking up.
,,Oh! By the way!" He said, and picked the book from his blanket and gave it to Dream.
,,Here! It's... Today it's a few years after the day we were made, so I thought I give you something! I... don't know why I did it, it just felt right!"

Dream blinked and opened the book. It was blank. ,,Thank you...?"
He said, confusion in his voice.
Nightmare giggled slightly. ,,It's a diary! You can write your thoughts and feelings down and stuff. Or you can write stories!" He cheered.
Dream smiled at Nightmare. ,,Thank you, brother! I appreciate it! But I don't have anything for you, sadly. I didn't know you were planning to give me something-"
Nightmare grinned slightly. ,,That's because it was a surprise, silly! But you couldn't expect it anyways, hehe. Imagine that there really would be a day where people would celebrate the day they were born-"
Dream snorted. ,,That would be funny."
He hummed.

The twins cuddled together in the cold, shivering, but content.
Well, more or less the cold was still painful.
And wet. They were wet too.
...
Yeah, Not Nightmare nor Dream ever went while it was snowing out of the place they were living in, too many bad memories.
