"Sam. Sam. SAM!"
I jump awake to see none other than my little brother, Ross, looking down at me. I glance outside and notice it is still dark.
"What do you want Ross?" I mumble.
"I had a bad dream. Can you come lay in my bed with me?"
"No."
"Please?" He begged.
"No. Will you just go back to bed before you wake everyone else up?"
"Not until you come with me."
I groan as I roll out of bed. "You have to man up. You're almost ten now. What are you going to do if the Delancey brothers go after you?"
He just yawned and led the way back to his bed. Ever since our parents died in a fire four years ago I have basically taken on the role as "mom" to Ross. However, being sixteen I wasn't always the best at being motherly.
"I'll just punch them both right in the nose just like Race always does." He says as he climbs into bed. I laugh as I lie down next to him. He is silent for about ten minutes until he whispers,"I like being a newsie. It's fun."
I smile on the outside, but on the inside I start to feel sad. Being a newsie doesn't give you the best life, but it is all we have. I glance over at a now sleeping Ross and smile. He is all I have, and all I will ever need.
