hyunjin slid into his gray, wool coat with slow, unwilling movements.
chris and felix were waiting outside, and the older brunette had warned hyunjin that if he wasn't ready in five minutes, he'd bust down the door and drag him out.
why make a christmas party a week before christmas was hyunjin's question. it seemed completely unnecessary and too early.
he shoved his reindeer-socked feet into a pair of heavy boots and ran his hands through his hair as if combing it.
feeling not even close to ready, hyunjin trekked out the door, shoving the key to his apartment into his pocket.
felix held out the sparkly reindeer headband with a hopeful smile.
hyunjin took the headband only when chris brought out the warning glare.
he shoved it on and made a mental note to remove chris and felix from his friend list. (that, of course, was an empty threat. he could never be rid of their friendship.)
when a toss of his head caused the glittery antlers to clack together, hyunjin groaned internally, knowing it was going to take forever to get the tacky sparkles out of his hair.
but he began following after the friendly pair, sending forlorn glances to the front door of his cold apartment.
once they were outside, the bitter cold pressed in even more forcibly.
hyunjin lowered his chin into the collar of his coat, wishing he'd worn a scarf.
but, of course, he had no scarf. the only one he'd ever possessed had been lost amongst jisung's things; a scarf he would never get back.
though, he didn't mind the idea of jisung suddenly finding the scarf, forgetting it didn't actually belong to him, and wearing it out in the cold. even if he didn't remember hyunjin when he wore it, it would still be nice to see him wear it.
hyunjin smiled slightly inside the collar of his coat.
but then his eyes lighted upon chris and felix, who were chattering comfortably between them.
felix was now wearing a pair of white earmuffs over his springy orange hair, and matching mittens. he talked excitedly with chris, suddenly clutching the brunette's arm before dancing around happily, puffs of misty air clouding his face.
and hyunjin hated it.
he absolutely despised winter, and seeing happy couples in it only worsened his hatred for the season. it didn't matter that they weren't dating. it was obvious the two were happy together, and hyunjin absolutely loathed it.
it pierced his heart, filling his throat with a lump that was impossible to swallow.
he was happy with jisung, too. at least, before.

"...you bought kkami... shoes?!"
jisung nodded and began strapping the boots onto the poor dog's paws. "now we can walk him outside, even though it's cold!"
"our poor baby's going to freeze out there," hyunjin complained, kneeling down to pet the dog's ears.
jisung tossed the dog-sized sweatshirt onto hyunjin's lap. "put this on him."
the blond obeyed without another word, fitting the sweatshirt around kkami's upper body while jisung worked on getting his shoes on.
kkami's dark eyes watered in hyunjin's vision, and he touched a cold, wet nose to the taller's forehead.
gushing, jisung suddenly grinned, "i don't know who's cuter, kkami or hyunie!!"
hyunjin managed a giggle at jisung's words, picking kkami up. "we can't let him stay out for long; it really is cold out there."
jisung nodded and clipped kkami's leash onto his collar, leading the way outside.
the two looked like a pair of overprotective parents as they fussed over kkami before finally settling him down on the concrete.
hyunjin held the leash in a gloved hand, the other curled together with jisung's.
jisung swung their arms as they hobbled along, taking in the scenery.
in that moment, he wished he'd brought along his camera. because jisung amidst the winter scenery was a view he wasn't sure he'd ever be able to portray in any other art form.
