hyunjin looked over his friend's reaction, worried. before he could voice his concern, felix spoke in a whisper.

"picasso. . ."

a laugh escaped from his mouth, a loud and cheerful sound. truly strange. it had been a long while since hyunjin had last laughed. he couldn't even remember the occasion. probably, with jisung. . .

the smile slowly faded away.

his heart panged with the echoes of his broken first love.

"i like how. . ." chris smiled thoughtfully, breaking through hyunjin's painful thoughts, "i like how the colors look like they're leading away and also going to this person here. almost like. . . he influences others as much as they influence him. thank you, sammy. this is so cool."

hyunjin then beamed with pride. the stress of completing a project before the deadline washed off from his shoulders, and the anxiety that chris wouldn't like it was chased away.

"oh, what's this big pink splotch," felix suddenly cut in, eyes bright with curiosity.

hyunjin's eyes widened with horror and he immediately angled his head to see. pink?! he had never once brought out pink to paint. how could there be pink on there?!

he nearly broke down from despair; the painting was ruined, it was horrible, and he had failed in his area of expertise. might as well quit the art program, give up on being an artist, say goodbye to chris for forever, and-

chris laughed, "how pretty! i'm calling this streak of color 'hyunjin'."

the blond furrowed his thick eyebrows in confusion, blinking profusely.

"right! this really expresses him well," felix tacked on, smiling widely.

hyunjin sputtered in indignation, "what are you talking about?" it was clearly a mistake, glaringly obvious on the canvas.

but before either of them could explain their reasoning, the doorbell rang once again.

the trio glanced over at the front door, watching hyunjin's mother walk over with surprised mutters.

hyunjin quickly snuck a peek at chris' beaming face, recalling his words. someone else was supposed to be coming over. . .

the front door was yanked open, bringing with it a blast of cold air that stole the warmth and happiness that had been palpable in the house, before.

with the freezing wind around, there was no possibility of warmth to exist.

hyunjin felt his heart sink with emotions as he recognized the familiar greeting, as well as the happiness in his mother's tone of voice. happiness she had only reserved for jisung's surprise visits, before.
