hyunjin rummaged through the suitcase in a panicked manner, wondering how he could lose that special parting gift. maybe he'd accidentally packed it somehow?!
with a grunt, he kicked the suitcase, causing it to fall over with a loud thud.
jisung yelled in a muffled tone from the bathroom, "what happened?! is someone breaking in?! oh my god, sammy sam!! i'll save you; don't worry!!"
hyunjin raised his eyebrows as jisung burst from the bathroom door, screaming bloody murder. in one hand, he sported a toilet brush, and in the other, a sopping wet kkami. his t-shirt was covered in suds and bubbles.
this caused hyunjin to burst into loud, immediate laughter, causing him to drop onto the floor.
jisung huffed and stomped a foot. "that wasn't funny," he whined with a smile threatening to overtake his facial features. he couldn't help it. hyunjin's joyous laughter was contagious.
"and what were you gonna do to an intruder with kkami and a toilet brush," hyunjin asked in between wheezing giggles, brushing the tears from his eyes.
jisung grabbed a towel and used it to begin drying kkami's fur off. "you'd be surprised at what your boyfriend, the all-rounder, can do."
hyunjin smiled fondly at jisung. "i'm gonna miss you, so much. who's gonna protect me from intruders over there?"
jisung set kkami down and went over to kneel beside hyunjin. "want me to break up with you make this easier?"
"don't even joke about that, han jisung," hyunjin said in a warning tone.
"as if you'd be rid of me that easily," jisung huffed, then threw his arms around hyunjin in a tight bear hug. his voice was muffled against the taller's neck as he pleaded, "promise you'll call every day. and you'd better come back to me as soon as you can."
hyunjin closed his eyes and pulled jisung in closer, wondering out loud, "maybe three hours won't be too much to travel every day. i could probably get away with living here and still going to the art program."
they spent some time like this, enjoying their last embrace before having to say goodbye to each other for awhile.
finally, hyunjin recalled where he'd stashed jisung's parting gift and so, got up to find it.
by then, it was time to head over to the train, and jisung insisted on walking him there.
seungmin awkwardly walked a few steps behind the clingy pair, avoiding eye contact with them.
once it was time to board the train, hyunjin handed jisung the sketchpad, which had been the gift he'd wanted to give him.
jisung's eyes went wide with surprise, and hyunjin flipped the book open to reveal the first page.
it was a small doodle of a sleeping jisung, one hyunjin had made during a night when his nervousness over the art program had kept him awake.
he'd written in small letters underneath the doodle, "lovehannie".
seungmin called out then, "if you guys are done, we've got a train to board? unless you're planning on missing orientation, hyunjin."
they shared one last hug, and reached their arms out to each other as far as they could stretch, holding hands until hyunjin had to board, and the doors closed between them.
he ran to kneel on the seat by the window, pressing his nose against the cold glass.
thanks to the ice that covered it, his face became even more distorted as hyunjin made numerous funny faces to jisung, who was visibly dying of laughter.
the train rumbled to life, and hyunjin answered the call that rang from his phone to hear jisung on the other end in a teary voice, "i already miss you, hyunie."
