Part 9

Luke POV

I watch Reggie pull out his driveway once again and speed off down the street. "What's his problem." I say "Oh, I don't know maybe the fact his life was turned upside down and He hasn't had time to process it. Well actually none of us have had time to process it."
"We don't need to process, we need answers."
"Luke, what has gotten into you? Ever since the car ride, it's like you have been trying to distract yourself."
"It's nothing, I'm fine. Let's just try to figure out what's going on."
"No! Let's take a minute and process what's going on. I'm sorry your life didn't change as much as the rest of ours and now you're bored with it, but the rest of us were thrown in for a loop. We just need some time."
"I don't want time."
"Luke, what is going on."
"NOTHING!" I storm off in the other direction towards the garage. I walk inside and sit down on the couch pulling out my iPhone hoping to find some answers. I feel the phone quickly removed from my hands. "Hey! Give it back."
"NO, We are talking about what is going on. Luke something changed in your life and you know it. I don't care if you don't want the other two to know, but you're going to tell me."
"My sister left. Well, my mom left. She left me."
"What?"
"You know how Alex's little brother is his dad."
"Yeah?"
"Well, something similar happened to me."
"Okay? I thought your parents said they didn't have any more kids though?"
"They didn't. My sister died when she was born." I pause for a minute to collect myself. "Before I, you know died. My mom was pregnant with my little sister. My parents had trouble getting pregnant with me, so they were ecstatic when they found out they were pregnant again. I remember the night that my Mom went into labor, she was a little early, but that shouldn't have been a problem. They went to the hospital, but something went wrong in delivery. Kiah was alive for ten minutes before she passed away." I feel myself start to cry, "Well, in this timeline the roles were reversed. I was... well Luke passed away during delivery. My mom or Kiah had me at sixteen, she named me after my uncle Luke who passed away when he was born. My mom needed help with me because well she was still in school. That worked until shortly after she graduated high school, I was about three and my mom decided she didn't want me. She wanted to go out and live her life. One morning my parents woke up to a note, she was gone, and then they heard me in the other room. We haven't seen or heard from her in Fourteen years."
"Luke, I'm so sorry."
"It's fine. It's just a lot."
"Yeah, I bet it is, can we all take time to process life before we try to tackle all of the problems?" I nod my head. "So... big brother Reggie?" I say with a laugh trying to change and lighten the situation. "Yeah, that's more stressful than you'd think."
"In what ways?"
"The fact I don't think he wants to be my brother."
"And, why would you say that?" I say with a laugh. She glares at me. I put my arms up in surrender "It's just we talked last night and I... I... I don't know I feel like. Yeah, I just don't think this is what he signed up for."
"Well, to be honest none of us signed up for this, but we're gonna make the best of it." She nods and hangs her head "Julie, I can promise you he wants to be a good big brother to you. He's probably just a little overwhelmed with everything right now."
"Yeah, I... I mean... It's just a little bit awkward right now."
"And it probably will be for a while. You and Reggie just got put into a situation no one saw coming." She nods her head. "Julie, talk to me." she sighs. "I'm afraid he's not gonna like me. I'm afraid that I'm going to disappoint him. I'm afraid He's not happy. As much as I want him to be my brother, I can't force him to be." We both hear the door start to open, and see a very shocked Reggie standing on the other side. "Bubba, you weren't supposed to hear that," Julie says shocked. "Bubba?" Alex and I ask. We see Reggie walk over to her and Hug her. He starts to whisper something in her ear. She relaxes and starts to hug him back. I see her bury her head into his neck and I hear her start to cry. Alex motions for me to come outside with him, I nod and quietly walk outside closing the door behind me.
