the drugs weren't a lie.

mingi snorted. "called it."

"which ones you have on you?" hongjoong asked, peering into beomgyu's pouch.

"at least i have money to pay you back."

"i don't want your dirty money."

"fine." beomgyu sat on the office chair in their dorm room, his favorite spot.

he spun a pen between his fingers.

wooyoung sat on the edge of his bed. "i promise i will, though."

"take a million years," wooyoung teased, swinging his feet onto the bed to lie down. "i don't really care, and pretty sure my dad doesn't either."

beomgyu dropped the pen on the table, made his way to his own bed. "conscience says otherwise, my dude."

"that's because you're stealing drugs from the lab."

"to pay for my goddamn edumacation."

wooyoung clicked his tongue. "either way, they're gonna ship your ass back to daegu, my friend."

"yeah, but i kinda miss my bed," he admitted, slipping under the covers. "you know, back home?"

and my family.

"i know," wooyoung said softly, a crack of a smile evident under dim lights.

a certain - hidden - softness reserved for a few chosen people. "thanks for staying."

we know it's hard for you.

beomgyu offered a wide smile despite heavy lids.

"thanks for being family."

"what about you?" mingi throws the question back. "think you'll do good?"

"i can't really afford to fuck up."

in the most literal sense, beomgyu wants to add, in terms of his upcoming licensure exam - pharmacy.

mingi chuckles breathlessly, beer bottle pressed against his lips. "sucks, doesn't it?"

"what does?"

"growing up."

beomgyu's gaze remains ahead as he speaks, an evident fondness in his eyes. "i don't think it's so bad."

kai screams and struggles, draped over san's shoulder as the latter runs into the ocean.

wooyoung follows suit, splashing water at kai who tries to cover his face. there's laughter that follows kai's cries for help, and he attempts to grab hold of wooyoung's arm to pull him into the water as he falls, dragging san in.
