Martha turned to Lauren, still starry eyed from her magical encounter with Brandon.
"I was totally chatting to Brandon Flowers while you were away! I'm sorry I know I should have come after you, but he was very distracting! He even bought me drink and touched this very glass with his very hands and you know how I feel about his hands and he said he liked my boots and he wants me to design an outfit for him..." Martha babbled on and on.
"Breathe, breathe." Lauren said putting her hands on Martha's cheeks.
"Your hands are freezing!" Martha laughed putting her hands up to cover her friend's fingers
"Your face is roasting hot!" Lauren said, gently patting Martha's cheek.
Martha groaned and hung her head down to the floor, "That's because I've spent the last half an hour blushing like crazy! It's so embarrassing! Hey, listen, what happened with Greg?" Martha suddenly remembered.
"I'll give you one guess," Lauren scoffed
"He's decided that he was a total dick to you this morning and he's sorry. He really loves you and he's planned a romantic get away wedding for the both of you?" Martha said sarcastically.
"Yeah right!" Lauren snapped,"He caved under pressure in the pub and started drinking with his friends, while the football was on."
"So, how are we getting home?" Lauren asked, getting worried.
"Your brother is coming to pick us up and if you had checked your phone, instead of flirting with a rock star, you would have seen a text from him, telling you about it." Lauren said with a little accusation in her tone.
Martha dug out her phone and saw the text from her brother, Martin.
"Lauren's Greg is in the pub and he's drinking! I've told him that I can pick you and Lauren up. I'll head up there for about 11. He's a total dick! x"
"Sorry, I didn't notice this text at all, I was too caught up with Brandon. Speaking of Brandon, The Killers are going to be on soon!" Martha said in a mild panic. She quickly sent a reply to her brother thanking him and telling him she had met Brandon Flowers.
"That's ok, you deserve to have something amazing happen to you for
once and all I can say is thank God for your brother!" Lauren said genuinely, "Let's go and see your fancy man do his stuff!" She laughed and grabbed Martha by the hand and they made there way through the tent and out into the air and atmosphere of the festival.
Tony was still standing steady at the entrance to the marquee."Thank you Tony, I had the best time ever!" Martha gushed as she hugged Tony's large frame.
"Yeah, thanks Tony!" Lauren said as they headed towards the main stage.
"No problem, girls, enjoy!" Tony called out as they made their way through the crowd.
Martha felt the alcohol hit her as she walked about in the fresh late evening air. The sun was still out and the sky was turning the pale purple of twilight. Martha felt alive and was ready to sing and dance along with her favourite band, especially now she felt she had a connection to the lead singer. Even if she never saw Brandon again, she would never forget that magical conversation, and she smiled to herself as the memory filled her mind.
The girls got a good place just to the left of the stage. They could see Brandon's keyboard dressed in spiky antlers. It seemed crazy that less than an hour before Martha had been having a drink and a chat with Brandon himself. The crowd let out a huge welcome roar as The Killers ran on stage.
The show was amazing and Martha felt so emotional as she watched her most favourite band perform with such energy and passion. She felt a little despondent when it was all over and the crowd was beginning to trickle out of the festival gates.
