Martha didn't enjoy her date with Mitchell, even though he took her to the nicest restaurant The Mirage had to offer. She had been left cold after her tense phone call with Brandon and she she knew she was stringing Mitchell along to get back at Brandon. She could feel the icy hand of guilt creeping over her heart after hearing the hurt in Brandon's voice. Now she was sitting across from Mitchell who was yapping on about his latest trial conquest. She wanted to go home and disappear under her bedcovers.
Martha managed to fake smile through her lunch and thanked Mitchell graciously, as they parted.
"So, I'll see you on Friday for your Birthday dinner!" Mitchell said his face shining.
"Yes, it's come around so quickly!" Martha smiled, looking forward to a quiet night out with a few friends, especially Charles, who would indulge her in her Brandon woes.
Martha wanted to tell Mitchell that there would be no more dates, she didn't want any misunderstandings or anymore pretence. But she never got the the chance. Mitchell's phone rang and he had to get back to work. He kissed Martha's cheek, while still on the phone and swept past her. Martha was left with a leaden stomach.
Martha woke up with her phone buzzing somewhere in her bed, she slapped around the covers, her eyes still closed, until she felt her hand upon the cold phone.
"Hello?" Martha said her voice groggy with sleep.
"Good morning sunshine, did I wake you?" Brandon's voice was soft and soothing.
"Yes, but that's ok!" Martha sat up, rubbed at her face and tried to open her eyes, "What time is it? Are you in Vegas?"
"Sorry, I didn't mean to wake you!" Brandon apologised and Martha wished Brandon was whispering that in her ear as they lay in bed together.
"It's fine, honestly!" Martha said feeling that familiar buzz at talking to Brandon.
"It's 9am in the beautiful city of Las Vegas!" Brandon put on a radio announcers voice that made Martha laugh.
"How was your flight home?" Martha asked lying back in her bed.
"Hell, if I'm honest!" Brandon chuckled, "But I had Vannucci to hold on to, although I don't think he was too happy about it!" Brandon's adorable giggles leaked through the phone, melting Martha's heart.
"I'm glad you're home safe," Martha said gently as she tried to control the butterflies in her stomach. She couldn't believe the effect he still had on her.
"Yeah, it's good to be home," Brandon said a little sadly. Martha wanted to appear at his door and show him exactly how good it was to be home.
"Your jacket is ready!" Martha said with a little smile, as she enjoyed her secret thoughts about Brandon.
"Great, that's why I was calling," He said with a business tone, "Can you bring it over to the studio, maybe later today or tomorrow?"
"You're only just home and you're in the studio already?" Martha said a little
surprised."You think musical masterpieces just happen?!" Brandon laughed, "We've got so many new ideas and songs to work on, I'm excited about getting it done."
"Sounds like it!" Martha giggled, "I can't wait to hear some of your new stuff!"
"I might give you a sneak preview at the studio," Brandon's voice was full of promise and Martha grinned to herself at the thought of getting to hear his new music.
"I'll come over about 3, is that Ok?" Martha said, mentally thinking about what she would wear.
"Great! I guess I'll see you then," Brandon said hesitantly as if he had something else to say.
