Hunter POV:
"Daddy daddy, can I get a big cake for my birthday?" Maria asked.
"Of course. Let's go now before it gets crowded." I said lifting her off the ground. She giggled as I put her on my shoulders while we walked to my truck. I sat her in the seat as she buckled up and I was soon buckling up to. I sat my phone on the charger and I looked at the new message I had. It was from Helen telling me about a new job she got for me. I smiled and started the car. "Is it good news daddy?" Maria asked me.
"Daddy had another project coming up thanks to Ms.Helen," I said.
"I like Ms.Helen. Can I meet her one day?" She asked.
"Of course you can Maria. How about she come to your party." I suggested.
"Yeah. There'll be plenty of cake if we get a big one." She said. I nodded and we pulled off to my best friend's wife's bakery. I parked the car and we got out entering the bakery. "So you do wedding cakes too?" An all to familiar voice asked Kate(best friends wife).
"Indeed I do," Kate said.
"That's amazing because I love your cakes," Emma said.
"Thank you. I love to hear compliments. I'll be with you in a minute Hunter." Kate said. Emma turned around and saw me with Maria. "Hi Ms.Emma," Maria said.
"Hi Maria. How are you? She asked completely ignoring my presence. "Who's the cake for?" I asked.
"Me and my wedding with Adam. I thought my aunt would have told you. It's in 2 weeks." She said.
"That's when I get out of school," Maria exclaimed.
"You both should come." She said.
"Can't ill be halfway around the world by then," I said.
"What." She said.
"Didn't your aunt tell you. She got me a job in Dallas and I'm taking it." I said.
"Dallas is so far away." She said.
"Yeah, but it pays and there's nothing left here for me. Tell Skylar I say goodbye." I said.
"Will do." She said.
"Goodbye, Emma," I said.
"Goodbye, Hunter." She said before leaving the store. Her eyes gave her away the moment I told her I was leaving. She was hurt, but more hurt when I told her that there was nothing left here for me, but that was the truth. She was getting married to Adam and I wasn't going to fight for something that I wasn't going to win in the end anyway.
