I am listening to them again
And I am reminded of you
Of what we could have been
drives on those long stretches of road
With only nature surrounding us
With only life surrounding us
Sheer lemon and rich clementine light
coating the plains of our faces
From the sunset reflecting in the rear view mirror
I'd press play on the radio
You'd turn it up way too loud, and I'd turn it back down
And we'd listen as lunar moths transformed to honeyed ichor
In the dips of our ears
A heavenly metamorphosis
I'd tell you to listen to his voice
Really listen
How it sounds as if angels took refuge in the pit of his soul and called out to anyone who was willing to bathe in their sweet melodies
Harmonic and oh so divine
The birth of Venus
Sea foam and warm candlelight
You wouldn't tell me, but I know you'd feel the same way
Let them embrace you in their symphony
And listen and listen and listen
I look back, and you're younger now
Crimped hair and smudged eyeliners
Scratched cds and smoke damaged posters
A time when life hadn't let you down yet
And no one had dulled the flames in your heart
An idyllic youth
I see her
And she is next to me
She has my eyes
And my hair
The same washed out brown colour that I've always hated
And I sit with her
Until the angels reach a cosmic crescendo
I miss her
I really fucking miss her
She looks at me
And she smiles
A bright aluminum smile
And I never want the music to stop
