Chapter 18

Levi remained unconscious for an entire day. When he came to next day, he was in unbearable pain. He moaned pitifully before dragging his limp body to his drawer. He searched for some painkillers and immediately popped two pills into his mouth. After swallowing the pills drily he waited for the meds to kick in.

The entire time neither his mother nor his father bothered to check up on him. Right now he was scared to even step a foot out of his room. He has never been this afraid in his life. He wanted to hide someplace before his father decided to continue with the punishment if it was unfinished.

He noticed the space underneath the bed and crawled as fast as he could towards it. Once inside he tried to calm his racing heart.

Whenever there was sound of footsteps passing by his door, he held in breath and stuffed his mouth with his fists. He was terrified to think what his parents may do next.

He may be wrong yet this was all new to him. Sure he had raped the girl but it was under the influence of alcohol. He didn't mean to but nobody believes him.

Tears were relentless.

He heard a knock at his door but dared not to move but the knocking continued. When the person on the other side of the door realized Levi will not be opening up any time soon, they entered on their own accord.

"I know you are here Levi. Come out of your hiding place."

Levi was scared he was going to be punished further so he scooted back until he became one with the wall. He covered his mouth with both his hands and started trembling in fear.

It was Drew. He sighed deeply before saying to come down to rectify his mistake. There are the girl's family waiting downstairs to meet him. To this Levi gave muffled whimpers.

He was guilty and he didn't have courage to face the girl. Yet his father wanted him to apologize properly. He too wanted to do that but he was scared. What if they hurt me more?

Well he wasn't wrong in assuming as his bleak future held no promises of happiness.

Drew got pissed off with his son's cowardliness. He took the matters into his own hands. He dragged Levi from under the bed to the living room where Chaaru and her brother were assembled.

As soon as Levi was dragged in front of them, Mason landed a heavy punch on his cheek causing him to fall down heavily.

A shriek slipped past Chaaru's lips but Levi remained silent after releasing a long groan. He knew he deserved it and much more.

Just as Mason was ready to strike once again, Chaaru flung in front of Levi to protect him from his brother's further onslaughts.

"P-Please Mason. S-Stop."

Chaaru pleaded his brother and held his hand so he doesn't hit more. Mason looked at his ex-bestfriend with so much hurt that it sent daggers into  Levi's chest. He sniffled before holding Chaaru's legs to seek her forgiveness.

But Chaaru was ready to forgive him on one condition that when they come of age, he is to marry her.

"Please L-levi. You k-know it was my first time. A-and my family is very orthodox. N-no one would want me now. Please. My parents are already heart-broken."

"If-if words spread, you know how our community is. Th-they would bash me and-and consider me to be a curse who would bring only misfortune to others. Please. Levi" Chaaru gently knelt beside him before tenderly holding his hands.

Levi's hands shook as he listened to her requests. He knew how his society is. He knew if he leaves her, then definitely she will be doomed to a bleak future filled with ridicules as well as blame.
