"The crispy fried chicken is exquisite, Brandon!" Lia who is sitting in front of me, exclaims in delight, licking her lips.
"The steak as well is so good..." Erden comments along, his tongue quickly slipping out to wet his lips. "Thanks man."
Brandon places back the spoon he was about to put in his mouth on his plate. "That's how I wanted. Enjoy guys!" He beams happily.
The day is getting closer. The pain is growing stronger. And the fear is turning deeper. Erden and I are not the only one going through this. Our friends are worried as well.
Brandon has organized a farewell party for Erden, invited all our friends including Latasha and Roy, and some of Brandon and Erden acquaintances. The blond even asked me to invite Austin and Justin. They are surprisingly present, not far from me. Surely they came to check if everything will be in order this time.
The lunch is being carried out in Brandon's backyard, which is spacious and green, where two long dinning tables have been placed. One for the buffet service, set with varieties of food and drinks. And the other one where we are all sitting together, while chatting and eating.
Everyone is elegantly dressed today, the boys in classy long-sleeves shirts, whereas the girls are in classic and simple dresses. Similarly, I'm wearing a purple, knee-length dress with long chiffon, drape sleeves.
As I'm nearly about to finish my plate, I observe around. It feels agreeable to see all of us reunited. Curiously, I catch Brandon making Ariel eats a piece of fried calamari, while making sure not to smudge her red lipstick. I muffle a grin. They are really dating, which is unbelievable. Quite similarly, I've noticed earlier that Lexi has caught the eyes of the grumpy Justin. I caught him several times checking her out, which Lexi is failing to remark compared to me.
Suddenly, the clicking sound of glass draws my attention. I find Brandon, who just stood up, clearing his throat as he is about to speak. "Thank you all for your attention. I've never done a speech before. But today is an exception for the most exceptional person among us..." His right-hand gestures in a grandiosely manner to the brunet sitting beside me. "Erden!"
There is an instant round of applause.
Erden glances at all of us, appearing slightly confused and uncomfortable.
A small smile shapes on Brandon's lips as he gets started. "The guy, I met about ninety days ago in a bar, turned out to be my bestfriend. I immediately trusted him on the first day itself and lent him my black BMW to go to a party that night. He is the coolest guy I know and the hottest as well." He grins and we all guffaw.
"You were carefree, and that's what made you unique." Brandon tucks his blond shoulder-length hair behind his ears as he seems to turn emotional. "If they didn't make me realise that I know you since only ninety days, I would have believed that I've known you since ninety years."
There is a warm feeling in my chest. How relatable what he just said is.
His bottom lip quivers as he is staring at Erden. "I love you, man."
Whistling, we all clap our hands again for him.
Erden eyes shut briefly, mouthing an 'I love you too.'
"My turn." Damon declares as he stands up. "Guys..." He inhales a breath, looking at all of us briefly. "When you look at Erden, you will definitely think that he is someone who has no mercy, who agree with me?"
"Yesss!" Brandon and Lia scream out, tittering.
"You think that once you fucked up, it's over. But nah..." He shakes his head, staring at Erden with regret in his eyes. "I messed up one time, we even fought. Though it was my fault, he came to me himself and pretended that nothing happened." For the first time, the banter Damon is wincing in sadness. "He is someone golden."
