Straight off, I turn back to see my savior and my eyes widen as the one standing in front of me with clenched jaw and fist, is no one else but Erden.
Without exchanging with me a single look, Erden rushes to that freak and snatches the collar of his tousled shirt and hauls him to a sitting position, earning some gabbles from him.
"Just try to touch a girl again, and I will make sure that you got your dick cut off!" He barks threateningly on his face and throws him back down to his lying position.
"Now disappear!" Erden orders harshly and the barfly laments, exerting himself to get up.
"Faster, damn it!" He yells as he sees the boozer taking all his time. I myself jumped at the high tone he has taken. The drunkard frightened, puts pedal on metal and goes away, unceasingly doddering like an old man.
Erden then turns to me, a horrified look on his face as he walks in my direction. I'm so terrified that all I can do is to stare blankly at him. His hand swiftly finds its way to touch my face, but just before he has a single physical contact with it, his movement freezes. His hand gently clenches while he pulls it back. My heart strangely sinks.
"Are you alright?" He asks, looking deep in my eyes, both his voice and pupils full of concerned.
Under my petrified state, I throw myself into his arms and clasp firmly the back of his leather jacket to calm down my trembling body. At first, he was startled by my sudden reaction. But then sluggishly, he wraps his callous arms around my back and holds tightly my body against his, surely to ease my fear. At that instant, I realise that I have never felt so good in someone's arms. His muscular, big arms grants me respite, and the deep lavender perfume of his body causes everything to vanish around us. I think it's the effect of the book or my fright which is producing that dazed effect.
"Well, can you leave me now?" Erden scoffs after some minutes, his words luring my senses back. I immediately step back, blushing. His plump lips switch into a smirk on seeing me unable to look into his eyes.
Mine are bashfully roaming everywhere just to avoid his piercing gaze. I know he is grinning. I want to speak, but my voice is stuck to my throat.
"I know what you want to say." He giggles. My eyes promptly rush to meet his.
He clears his throat before he utters in a witty tone, "you want to say that, you hugged me because you were frightened."
I nod.
"But..." he trails off and sheds a cocky smile. My eyes narrow at him. "You didn't expect to find my arms sooo agreeable."
I choke in shock.
How does he know?
"Am I right?" He laughs to scorn, making all my girly feelings to disappear in a puff of smoke.
"Shut up! It has nothing to be agreeable, I was just afraid!" I protest to defend my poor ego. It's like he read my mind, he always finds my secret thoughts to taunt me with them. And being helpless, I can't help but to deny them.
Erden's eyes roll skyward before he sighs. "You don't accept losing an argument. Look at you now, if I wasn't here that tipsy would have already raped you!"
Oh, he is playing the hero. He saved me, I recognize. But something is bothering me. How was he on standby?
"What are you doing here, first of all?" I ask, my forehead puckering.
"Oh, come on." He puffs. "I was just passing nearby and accidentally saw you. You should thank god that this happened. And put this in your mind." He hisses, tapping his index on the side of his forehead. "I will never listen to your stubbornness, Miss Writer!" He says the last sentence through gritted teeth, leaving me tongue-tied.
