Hazel
Sometimes, all we need is to live with it, even if our heart is aching deep inside. I succeeded to wake up from my bed this morning, and now I'm about to reach school.
Getting off from the bus, I slowly march on the pavements to reach the zebra crossing. Since it's a one-way road, I look at my right side to check if there is any vehicle coming before crossing the road.
I mentally roll my eyes on seeing a red Honda approaching. The last person I wanted to see this early morning is indeed Lia.
I begin to tap my feet, chewing in on my cheeks to appear haughty as I wait for Lia to pass. But to my astonishment, the car stops before the zebra crossing. I immediately look at Lia quizzically. The windscreen displays only her head till her chest, but it's enough for me to recognize the T-shirt she is wearing. It's the purple short sleeve T-shirt, imprinted 'Best Friends' in white on the chest, which once Lia and I both bought together.
A lump is formed in my throat at that thought.
No, it shouldn't, Hazel!
I immediately huff. Lia gives me a light smile as she gestures to me to cross the road. Without any expression or anything, I look and fix right in front of me as I swaggeringly cross the street in front of that girl who was once my half.
Once I reached the other side of the road, I instantly hear the car groans as Lia drives forward, leaving me back. With a weight on my heart, I walk slowly as I watch the car going away, the incidents of last night recurring in my mind. In an echo, Erden's voice resonates in my head.
"She even came to beg you in front of everyone. It means that you're really important to her. More than her own feelings."
I run a hand over my face. Erden created a maze in my mind.
I was debating on this matter in my head when I hear a female voice calling me.
I immediately look back.
A wide smile forms on my lips as I see Ariel, the red head.
I haven't met her since days.
I remain still, as I wait for her to reach me. I get to admire how beautiful she is looking right now. Her red hair is glowing like flames under the rays of the beaming sunlight. It also gives to her cheeks a blooming tint, bopping the image of a tomato in my head.
"You're turning prettier each day." I compliment Ariel as she reaches me.
Pleased by my words, she beams at me before embracing me into a light hug. "Same for you, Hazel." She flatters me back before pulling out of our clasp.
I feign a smile at her. I cried too much yesterday to look beautiful today. I rather look like someone who has just been discharged from the hospital with those eyelids of mine. They have as if doubled in size.
"So, how are you?" Ariel asks me in a confident manner, as we begin walking to school side by side.
I look at her with narrowed eyes. She gives me a wink, which confirms that I'm right. She is already aware of what happened.
I raise a brow. "How do you know?"
"Lia consulted me both before and after you learned the truth." Ariel smiles politely. "She didn't choose this to happen, you know."
Again, the same shit.
I let out a puff. "Erden also told me the same thing."
"Erden the sexy beast?!" The redhead exclaims, her eyes wide.
