"Fernando!" I called as I made my way around the front garden. "Nando, where are you?"

"Mami!" Sofia yelled running up to me. "Nando fell in street by Mr. Lana's shop and can't stand back up! I think he broke something!"

"Where is Maya?" I asked, instantly worried he was alone.

"She's with Nando."

"Go get Tia Julieta," I ordered as I started towards the shop. "Tell her what happened and take her to Fernando."

When I reached the shop, Julieta was only steps behind me. My sister in law gave him a cookie.

He ate it quickly and stood up. "Thank you, Tia Julieta."

"Thank you," I said. Julieta gave a smile before she left. I dropped to my knees and hugged Fernando. "I told you not to leave the house today, Fernando."

"I'm sorry, Mami," Fernando said. "I just wanted to go with Maya and Sofia to get your cloth. They forgot to get my favorite color last time and I wanted it for my birthday clothes this year so I said you let me go with them."

"Oh, mijo," I sighed. "Your birthday outfit is already made. It's the white one we finished yesterday."

"Oh..." Fernando said sadly. "I forgot. I'm sorry I left, Mami."

I looked at my three children and smiled. "Come here girls." I hugged them. "Please, all three of you, be careful. I don't like seeing any of you get hurt."

"Okay, Mami," Maya said.

I let them go and looked at the three. I gave a small chuckle in my throat. "Let's go in the shop then."

"But we already have the order," Maya said, showing me the two full delivery bags.

"You all have to pick something for your birthday," I said, picking up my crutches and standing.

"Really?" Fernando asked with a smile.

I nodded. "Abuela can say what she wants. If you want to wear something else then I won't force you into what she wants. If she complains tell her I said you could."

Smiles broke across all three of their faces as they handed me the delivery bags. I pulled the delivery bags across my shoulders and followed them into the shop.

"Senora Madrigal?" Mr. Lana said in surprise. "Was there something wrong with your order?"

"No," I smiled. "We're just picking birthday presents."

"I want this color, Mami!" Fernando, bouncing with joy, pointed at my favorite colored cloth. "A whole shirt of it!"

"You know," I smiled as Mr. Lana got it for us, "when you were born you had a blanket in that color."

Fernando smiled. "Cool."

"Mami!" Sofia said, bouncing as she brought me a light blue ribbon. "I want this on my dress!"

I nodded and Mr. Lana added it to the pile.

Maya tugged on my dress. "Can I have a bow in this one Mama?" She held out a lime green colored ribbon spool.

I smiled as Mr. Lana added it. "That's everything." I paid him and put the things in my bags.

"Can I carry a bag for you, Mami?" Sofia asked.

I smiled as I handed her one of the bags. "Okay."
