"Papa wishes you'd visit more," Fernando said absent-mindedly. "He misses seeing you and watching you work."
I stared at my dinner quietly. "Okay, Nando."
"He still puts on telenovelas," Maya said quietly. "Dolores says they help her sleep."
I sighed. "Thank you, mi vida, but I think I'd rather not hear about your father right now. Not yet, anyway."
We sat in silence as we finished eating.

"What do you think?" Mateo asked Fernando in the other room as I worked on his new runna.
"She's going to love it," Fernando said.
The boys came into the room with something wrapped up in some of my material, a blue ribbon and some pins holding the bundle closed. Something was hidden under my son's runna.
Fernando smiled at me. "Happy birthday, Mami."
"We made something for you," Mateo said, forcing the bundle excitedly into my lap.
"Made?" I questioned, looking at the cloth bundle. Mateo was apprenticed to the wood worker in town and a bundle of cloth didn't seem like something Fernando would offer up. "How thoughtful?"
"It's inside the bundle, Mami." Fernando chuckled, rolling his eyes.
"Of course," I chuckled, hiding my relief. I began putting puns into my pin cushion and slowly opened up the package. Inside was a wooden foot.
"Oh... Uh... Thank you?" I said, confused.
"So you can dance on your own," Mateo smiled, moving the candy to the other side of his mouth.
"We thought you'd like it since Papa can't dance with you anymore," Fernando said.
I smiled as I examined the right foot. I didn't have the heart to tell the boys that I might look a little odd with two right feet.
"This will hold it on," Fernando said, offering a simple cane and what looked like an altered donkey harness. "And you can use the cane to get around."
"You'll be able to move around easier than on crutches," Mateo said.
I smiled and hugged the boys. "Thank you, boys."
"Let me show you how it goes on!" Mateo excitedly knelt.
I laughed as I allowed him to lift my dress to my knee.

I smiled as Mirabel appoched. "What can I do for you?"
"Do you know anything about my Tio Bruno?"
I raised an eyebrow at her. "My husband?"
"You were married to Tio Bruno?!" she said.
"Am," I said. "How did you think I became a Madrigal? Fernando is at the Casita all the time."
"I don't know," Mirabel shrugged. "Abuela never said anything about that..."
"Aye," I groaned out. "She wouldn't. Not once she basically banned talking about mi amor. My Bruno was the love of my life. He was gentle and calm but very superstitious. Always with the salt," I chuckled with a smile at the memory. "I still find it in our room all the time. That and the sand."
"Where did he go?"
"No one knows," I sighed. "Not even me... Why are you asking?"
"Oh, no reason," Maribel said.
"You found what?!" Maya yelled suddenly.
"Nothing!" Maribel said running out of the house.
"She found a prophecy," Maya said. "Papa's last prophecy." She looked at me. "The magic is in danger."
I looked out the window as Mirabel ran towards the Casita. "Tell everyone to get ready and let Julieta know," I said solemnly. "We're going to Isabella's engagement dinner."
