"Sofia!" I called into her room of repeating mirrors.
"Coming Mami!" She called back. She soon appeared in the door. "Yes?"
"I wanted you, not a double."
Sofia appeared around the corner with a shrug. "I thought it was pretty good."
"If I was your Papa I might have thought it was you but I know my little girl."
Sofia smiled. "What do you need, Mami?"
"We're having a family meeting in my room. Please get your siblings."
Sofia and her copy looked at each other before walking down the hall to her siblings' rooms.
I went back to my room and sat on my bed with Bruno. "I think your mother will actually be happy if we leave this time."
"I can't help but agree," Bruno said.
"We're leaving?!" Maya said in surprise as the door opened to the triplets.
The three of them stared for a moment before Fernando pretended to throw a stick down the hall. Sofia closed the door behind them.
"We are not necessarily leaving," I said.
"But you want to," Maya said.
"You're right, Maya," I said calmly. "My vote is to leave the Casita. But your Papa and I are not the only ones who get a vote."
"I don't understand," Sofia said. "Why should we leave?"
"Because Abuela doesn't like us," Maya said, crossing her arms. "She thinks that Nando is creepy and your impossible to tell apart from me. And she calls Mami 'puta' all the time."
"Maya," I scolded. "There is no need for that language."
"Sorry, Mami, but Abuela hates us."
"Our options," Bruno said, "are to leave and eat dinner here once a week or to stay."
"Where would we go?" Fernando asked.
"To my childhood home with Aunt Rosa."
"Primo Mateo is allergic to dogs though," Fernando said.
"We don't have a dog..." Sofia said.
"What?" Fernando knelt. "How can you say this face doesn't exist. You're the best boy in the world, Brisa."
"It's a ghost, Nando," Maya said. "It doesn't shed."
"You can take the dog with you, Fernando," I said. "But you'll all have to share a room until we expand the house."
"I can have a room with less mirrors, right?" Sofia asked.
"Yes," I said. She'd never complained about the mirrors before. "We can set up your rooms however you want."
"Then I want to leave," Sofia said.
"I agree," Fernando said, petting his invisible dog.
"Then it's unanimous," Maya said.
"Pack your things," Bruno said. "We'll leave after Luisa's gift ceremony tomorrow."

"I have something for you, Dolores," I heard Maya say from the living room as I gathered my sewing basket into a delivery bag in the kitchen.
"What is it, prima?" she asked.
"They're earplugs," I saw as Maya passed a small pair of cotton earplugs I'd made for her to Dolores. "They should help you sleep."
"Don't you need a pair to stop everyone else's thoughts?" Dolores asked.
Maya shrugged. "I'll tell Mami I lost them when we moved or something. So that way we both have a pair."
Dolores smiled as she took them. "Thank you, prima."

"I'll come visit, Abuelito," Fernando said infront of Pedro's picture. "I promise."
I sighed as I looked up at my son. I couldn't help but feel he was going to have a difficult life not being able to tell the dead from the living.
"He'll be okay, Mami," Maya said from behind me. "I'll make sure of that."
I turned and reached for her. "Come here."
She gave me the hug I was requesting. "I know you will."
"Will what, Maya?"
"Will give us the best life you can."
I kissed the top of her head. "You're growing up so fast, Maya. I wish I could give you a longer childhood."
She hugged me tighter. "I wish my gift was different. It's not any use to anyone in town and just makes Abuela mad when I use it."
I turned her face towards me. "Don't you ever think yourself useless, mi vida. Someday, you'll find someone who needs your help in a way only you can help them. Just because we don't know who yet doesn't mean anything. You already helped Dolores."
"You saw that? But I couldn't hear you?"
"I was gathering my sewing basket in the kitchen and saw you through the door. She was very happy to get those from you and I'll make you a new pair right away."
"Thank you, Mami."

The sound of shattering glass came from Sofia's room. I knocked on the door. "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine, Mami!" she called. "I just dropped something on a mirror!"
"Okay," I said. "Just be careful cleaning it up."
"We got it covered," she called.

"Bruno?" Julieta asked quietly as she knocked on the door.
Bruno looked at the door, nearly dropping the rat in his hand.
I set the rat I was holding on his shoulder and answered the door. "We're getting ready for bed. Is something wrong?"
She looked around the hall. "Can I step in? Sofia asked me not to tell you this..."
I stepped aside.
Julieta closed the door. "I'm sorry to interrupt whatever you're doing..." She paused as a rat scampered down Bruno's arm. "But I thought you should know that Sofia got hurt today."
"When she was picking up glass?" I asked.
"She asked me not to tell you, Mariposa," she said, "but didn't say anything about telling Bruno. I thought you both should know, Sofia punched the mirror in her room. It took a lot of coaxing and a bit of bribery to get her to tell me that."
"Why would she punch a mirror?" Bruno asked.
"I don't know," I said, sitting down. "Thank you for telling us, Julieta."
"I'd want to know if my girls did something to hurt themselves." Julieta nodded. "Good night."
"Good night," Bruno and I said as she closed the door on her way out.
"What should we do?" Bruno asked.
"Nothing yet," I said. "Leaving this house tomorrow will be good for all of us."
