"We're gonna save the miracle," I heard Mirabel's voice. "The magic-"

"What are you talking about?" Alma asked. "Look at our home! Look at your sister!"

I stepped into the court yard of the Casita with Fernando and we stood beside Isabella and Luisa.

"Please just..." Mirabel pleaded. "Isabela wasn't happy."

"Of course she isn't happy," Alma retorted. "You ruined her proposal."

"No, no, no. She needed me to ruin her proposal," Mirabel said. "And then we did all this! And the candle burned brighter and the cracks disappeared. That's why I'm in the vision! I'm saving the miracle!"

"You have to stop, Mirabel!" Alma yelled. "The cracks started with you. Bruno left because of you! Luisa's losing her powers. Isabela's out of control. Because of you! I don't know why you weren't given a Gift, but it is not an excuse for you to hurt this family!" Alma panted as she finished her accusations.

I could hear stones cracking around us as I watched Mirabel look to the floor. I was about to stand up to Alma, somehow make her blame me even if I had to lie through my teeth, I could take it after all, when Mirabel meet Alma's eyes as I had many times before.

"I will never be good enough for you, will I?" Mirabel asked. "No matter how hard I try. No matter how hard any of us tries. Luisa will never be strong enough. Isabela won't be perfect enough. Bruno left his family because you only saw the worst in him."

"Bruno didn't care about this family," Alma said.

"He loves this family," Mirabel yelled. "I love this family. We all love this family. You're the one that doesn't care. You're the one breaking our home! The miracle is dying, because of you."

I gasped as the ground split open between us, throwing me off balance.

Félix gasped. "The candle!"

Mirabel ran towards the candle. "Casita! Get me up there!"

"Mami!" Fernando put his arm around me. "We have to go!"

I looked just in time to see the second floor collapsing in on itself.

"I'm going to pick you up, Mami," Fernando said quickly before lifting me uncomfortably over his shoulder. I was surprised as he'd never lifted me before in his life but he still moved quickly to get us out of the house.

We both rolled to the ground outside of the ruined foundation of the Casita. I sat up, instantly looking for my son.

"Nando!" I rushed to my son only a few yards away and rolled him over. "No..."

Fernando began coughing in my arms. "I'm okay, Mami."

I let out a relieved sigh as I did my best not to deteriorate into tears. "My sweet boy..." I hugged him tight.

He let out a quick shout of pain. I let go instantly and he pulled his shirt up. Across his abdomen, a bruise was already beginning to form. "This ones going to hurt for a while..."

"I'll get Julieta," I said.

"No," Fernando grabbed my wrist. "The powers... Our gifts... They're gone."

"We should go check on your sisters." I found my cane quickly and helped Fernando up. "If your Papa was in the Casita, he's not now."

Fernando agreed with a comforting smile.

"Mami!" Maya yelled, running to meet me in the cracked street. She hugged me looking scared. "They stopped, Mami. The voices stopped."
