The summer passed into winter and around again the reconstruction was nearly finished Erik had been writing notes on a regular business to the managers they obeyed every order of his. The once dead opera house was now alive there was singing, music, and dancing once again.
Erik spent the year and a half building a new maze of tunnels and traps ensuring no one could find him. Ada walked briskly down the new maze of tunnels, "Erik are you down here?" She called into a new viewing spot. "Yeah." He seemed to pop out of the wall his white shirt was white with dirt and worn. "I have lunch." She offered handing him a basket smelling of fresh bread and roast chicken. "It smells good."
"Thank you."

"Are you ready for the opening night?" Erik asked taking a bite of his lunch.
Ada nodded, "I'm nervous, I've never played in front of a crowd much less an opera."
Erik wrapped his arm around her shoulder, "You will do splendid."

Erik escorted Ada to the box 5 trap door. "I'll see you at practice Erik." Erik tucked a stray hair behind her ear. "I'll be in my box."

Ada left him sneaking out of the box. Erik stood in the box and watched her go into the pit for practice, she had worked hard he may have given her a place in the orchestra but she deserved it and everyone knew it.
He leaned forward in anticipation. "Father will mother be on stage soon?" A child's voice asked from below. "Yes Gustave, soon."

Eriks heart stopped, he knew that voice.
"Christine!" A ballet rat squealed. Erik lept out of his seat and leaned over the railing. "My Christine." he whispered to himself.

---------------

Christine, Ada's violin hit a sour note when she heard the name. No it couldn't be Christine Daae, she kept playing christine began singing. It was a beautiful un earthy voice she shifted her glance to box 5 Erik wasn't there. Ada looked up in the overhead beams there perched was Erik dressed in the familiar black suit which now he filled nicely he was still thin but not skin and bones anymore.
His eyes were not on her but Christine, Ada felt her heart drop how could he be watching her? She left him, she left him to rot away in despair.

Practice ended she couldn't leave there fast enough. Ada jogged backstage to take the shortcut to box 5. Ada stumbled over a stray prop falling into someone. "Oh... Oh pardon me." Ada blushed her heart stopping, "Christine Daae!?" Ada tried her best not to let her jealousy show. "Well de Chagny now." Christine smiled she was even more beautiful than the pictures.

"Excuse me madam de Chagny but I have to go." Ada ran past Christine and up the stairs to box 5.
"Erik! Erik are you here?" Erik was sitting rummaging through his desk.
"Erik what are you doing?"
"She's here Ada! She has come back to me!" Ada felt sick why did he have to be so excited?
"Can we have dinner tonight?" Ada asked.
"Not tonight," he sighed "I'm meeting with..." He paused looking at the painting that he had taken down over a year ago and now just put back up. "I'm meeting with Christine." He sighed his eyes drifting away thinking of years past.

"Fine Erik." Ada mumbled and turned hiding the tears that threatened to fall.

Erik let the familiar black silk run through his fingers ever so carefully he tied it around a blood red rose. With a smile he walked eagerly to the Prima Donna dressing room. Through the mirror he could see Christine brushing her hair. "Brava my angel of music." Erik sang. Christine glanced around as her back was turned Erik entered the room. "My Christine."
