Erik lay awake in bed until he could hear Denis moving about the house. He got up from the bed doubled checking the mirror to be sure his mask was situated before leaving the bedroom. "Well you two were out late." Denis joked sitting in the parlor with a cup of tea. Erik didn't have to say anything his glowing gave it all away.
"She said yes?" Denis double checked his eyes sparking. Erik nodded a smile stretching across his lips. "Good morning you two." Ada beamed entering the room, Erik got up to kiss her good morning Denis looked away awkwardly. Ada was beautiful even after a long night out. Her long blond red hair was sloppily tied up a few strands confirmed her face. She wore a light green nightgown his favorite color in her with her white robe.
Erik pulled her by her waist to sit on his lap. "Ada your ring!" Denis gasped looking at the silver rose. Ada lit up admiring her ring.
The door opened in the next room Ada and Denis' fathers joyful booming voice sounded in the next room. "Father!" Ada gasped pulling Erik by the hand to greet her father. "Erik, I didn't expect you to be here." The man announced hugging Ada. "There was an accident at my house and I needed a place to stay monsieur I hope I am not imposing." Erik said deciding not to tell the truth, but a pain of guilt caused a pit to form in his stomach.
"Nonsense! Stay as long as you need to."
"Thank you monsieur." Eriks heart sounded in his ears he did not know Ada's father well and the thought of telling him of their engagement terafied him. "Papa, Erik and I have an announcement." Ada sang hugging Eriks waist her touch sending chills down his spine. "We are getting married!"
Her fathers jaw dropped his eyes widened, he shot a glance at Erik, than back at Ada. Eriks heart stopped, time stood still for the two.
"I knew there was more to you two than friends!" He gasped embracing Erik and Ada Erik tended up at the man's sudden touch. "When's the date?"Erik bit his lip and looked at Ada who was radiating a smile stretched as far as it would go. "This weekend?" Ada questioned looking at Erik. He was overwhelmed at how soon that was but it sounded like Ada had her mind made up. "were planning on moving to America." Ada announced her eyes filled with adventure and excitement.
"America?" Her father repeated his tone saddened, "Ada, that's so far." Erik felt guilty for dragging Ada from her father so sudden but he knew he couldn't be in France not when a bounty will be out on him any day. "I have enough money to get us started, I'm planning on opening a opera house in Manhattan." Erik explained. "Really Erik!" Ada gasped, "that has been your dream!" Erik cracked a nervous smile and nodded.
They spent the remainder of the day planning Erik purchased their tickets to America and Ada planned their wedding. It was all becoming so real. Erik moved out of the bedroom now that Ada's father was home now he slept on the parlor floor. Everyone had go to bed hours ago Erik lay on his pile of blankets on the floor staring at the dyeing ashes in the fireplace.
The stairs creaked and Erik turned to see Ada tiptoeing down them. Her eyes were bright and wide awake, "you can't sleep either?" Erik asked with a chuckle. Ada lay next to him curling up to his warm body. "What were you thinking about?" She questioned tangling her fingers with his. "Me, you... Us." He sighed, "the fear that you are just a dream and that I will wake up one day and find that you were all in my head."
Ada snuggled closer to him, her face touching his Erik could feel her hot breath in him as she moved in closer to kiss him. "Am I real now?" Ada giggled between kisses. Erik moaned combing her hair with his lean fingers. "My mother told me no one could ever love me." Erik admitted his eyes distant. "She was ashamed of me to the point of abandoning me."
Ada lay her hand on the twisted side of his face, "She didn't even name me she gave that job to a priest who felt sorry for me. I don't even have a last name." Ada forced a smile, how could a mother treat her child like that? She felt sorry for Erik but she knew that's not what he needed now. "Well we get a chance to no couples ever get!" Ada announced with a smile. "Now what should our last name be?" She sighed rolling on her back pondering the big question. "Erik and Ada Trapdoor." Ada snickered thinking of all his secret doors in the opera house, Erik rolled his eyes. "Maybe not that, ummm how about Y?"
Erik raised an eyebrow, "Y?""Ya! Erik and Ada Y! Kind of random Mr. Y." She grinned quite pleased with her decision, "I like it." She insisted silently telling Erik that her mind was made up and it was best not to argue.
"I love you." Erik breathed with a chuckle closing his eyes and drifting off to sleep.
