I arrived back at school and was met with such calm. An eerie calm of sorts. There was hardly anybody there. You had a couple of stragglers like myself, but it was good. The other students weren't set to return until next week. As I got out of my cab grabbed my bag shutting the door and stood at the entrance of my dorm. Taking a deep breath I went up to my room, and was met with a mess. I didn't realize we left that room in the state that it was in. So I decided to clean up and get myself ready for work tomorrow. As I was coming down the stairs heading to the laundry room I was met with surprise when I saw a fellow dorm mate here. I had seen her around the dorm, but never had the opportunity to talk with her. So I figured now was the time to introduce myself. Once I came back from the laundry room putting everything in the wash I came back up and saw that she was sitting in the lobby on her laptop. I didn't want to scare her so I opted to go around in front of her to say hello.
"Hi." She looked up at me. I wait for her to acknowledge me. "I'm Melody, but people call me Melly." I introduced smiling.
She looks up with a polite smile and says hello back.
"How are you? I'm Noelle." She then extends her hand to shake mine.
"So, what are you doing in the dorm by yourself Miss Noelle?"
"The same as you I think, and I didn't have anyone to go home to. So I stayed here and got some much-needed rest and a jump on my next set of class assignments." She smiled sheepishly.
I nod in understanding. Not assuming that her story is like mine, but for actually meeting a kindred spirit.
"Well it seems like I'm keeping you from something. I don't want to take up too much of your time, but I thought to introduce myself. Umm,I'm going to order a pizza for later, and you are more than welcome to join me for dinner if you'd like." I offered.
Not ever leaving my eyes. She smiles.
"I'd like that, thanks Melly. If you order the pizza then I'll bring the soda."
"You got a deal. See you in a few."
I get up from my seat, and head back to my room so that I can order us dinner ,and I smile to myself thinking I might've made a new friend.🔸🔸🔸
Work was work, the week seem to pass by so quickly. I started to see fellow students make their way back to campus. I had just gotten off from work, and as I was walking home I hear a car honking. I turned to my right to see none other than Miss Aubree-Lynn sporting a brand new beautiful cherry red BMW. I'm sure it's the latest from the dealership lot. She had the biggest smile on her face. As she rolled down the window. I was met with her infectious laughter.
"Hey Melly!! I thought that was you. Come on and get in!" She exclaimed excitedly.
I just smiled at my silly friend, taking in her happiness. I then went to the passenger side, and got in. We screamed, hugging each other and the laughter continued. It was good to see her.
"Oh Melly, how are you girlie? How was your holiday?" She asks with her country drawl. As she put on her blinker looking over her shoulder. I looked too.
"You can go, there's no one coming you're in the clear." I tell her. I turned back towards the front and put on my seatbelt.
"It was fine. Hanging out with family is always a good thing."I say giving her a sheepish smile.
She looks at me,and gives me a look that says yeah okay.
"How about you? How's everything with you and your family? And more importantly, this car. Care to explain?"
I asked about her family to be polite. I know she has issues with her parents. They seem to always compare her to her perfect sister Annabel, I think thats her name.
