My Melody

Chapter 29

Everyone seemed to be at a loss for words. Mutual looks of disgust were given but before anyone could say anything Dimitri took Miss Latasia, LaDimitria and Dahlia into his office. Gigi decided to pull rank as the matriarch of the family and have everyone go back into the dining room.

"Alright y'all it's time to eat. No sense in letting all this good food go to waste." Gigi said walking out of the foyer. We were all soon to follow. Carmen grabs my hand and we walk together. "I'm so sorry Melly that this happened." She said looking sad. I stop her as other family members gathered in the other room. "Then why did you invite me? I mean you knew that there was some issues brewing here. Those girls were making sly remarks throughout the day yet you said nothing,and I kept trying to keep the peace by moving away from them. It's only so much a person can take,and on top of that Dimitri's ex's are here and one of them is going out of her way to create unnecessary drama." I said getting aggravated.
"Well  if you felt that way why didn't you say anything?" She shoots back.
"Why would I have to Carmen? I don't know them,but you do. I don't know the circumstances,but you did. You said I had nothing to worry about, and that you'd handle them. If no one is going to actually address the issue at hand then this is only going to continue. He should've shut that down a long time ago. They would've all knew better not to even try to pull their crap." I said pointing at his office door. "I think your uncle Martin has the right idea by getting away from the nonsense. "Melly I-" ... Right then miss Rochelle came to tell us to come and eat. Just then both the front  and office doors opened at the same time. Walter,Dimitri and Martin all looking at each other. The twins came in soon after. Walter was able to talk them into staying,but when we saw Miss Latasia and LaDimitria going to get their coats I guess they weren't willing to play nice,and that says a lot. The look of disappointment was written all over Dimitri's face. Dahlia came out and looked like she was crying,and went up to her room. They left,but not before mean muggin him,and mister Martin. Martin gave  it right back. Good call making them leave because they weren't gonna act right. As we all went in to eat we all noticed that the brothers hadn't joined us yet. So Gigi designated Mr.Alberts to do the honors of cutting the bird. He made a little speech which everyone was surprised to hear since he's always so quiet.

"Thank you Gigi for allowing me to serve. I know I wasn't your first pick." He teased smiling at her like a Cheshire Cat. She pokes him.

"You know I love you in my own way." Some of the family laughs at what she said.

"Speaking of in our own ways. I think that the intention behind having everyone here today was Dimitri's way of welcoming his eldest daughter Melody into the family. Unfortunately it didn't go as planned, and if he'd known this I'm sure that this wouldn't  have happened. I don't want to dwell on the negative any longer. The holiday is about family and blessings so may God bless and heal our family amen." Mr.Alberts said.

"Amen." Everyone said. He then cut up the duck and passed it around. It was interesting I have to say. I felt a hand on my hand and looked to see Carmen. She leaned over apologizing again. I knew she felt bad. She's not a confrontational kinda person,and I knew that. And it actually wasn't her fault. So I accepted her apology without hesitation. About five minutes later the other men joined us. Martin went and sat in between his children. Walter went and sat by his wife and his daughter Torrance, and Dimitri actually tapped me on the shoulder and asked me to join him in his office. I got up to follow him.

"You can bring your food if you'd like." He said as he kept walking. I turn back and grabbed my plate and left the table. When I entered the office I saw him waiting by the door. I went to sit and he helped me then closed the door. He took a deep breath and then looked at me.

"Melody I'm so sorry for the way my daughters have been treating you. I guess I have a habit of letting things slide with them. I have guilt from not being there for La,and I guess you could say I've been overcompensating for our relationship or lack there of." I look at him when he says that placing my food on the desk. "It's still not an excuse,but I want you to know that I am sorry for what you witnessed here today,and how they were treating you. I asked them to leave because even after our talk they still acted as if they did nothing wrong,and unfortunately LaDimitria will follow her mother into the fire every time. I sincerely wanted everyone to come and enjoy themselves,but it seemed certain individuals brought their personal shit to the party." He finishes giving me a half smile. I just nod showing that I understood where he was coming from. Right then Michael decided to interject by stretching,and pushing on both my rib cage and bladder. I hiss at the sensation.
