I got off from work in the early evening. I always like to take my time walking home. That quiet time gives me a moment of peace allowing me to relax. My mind is always racing. All thee uncertainties seem to be showing themselves as of late. School is fine. My friends are now in good spaces in their lives, but there's always just that feeling in the back of my mind. I can't quite explain it,but I feel a certain level of stress. I think about what my next move will be. What has life got in store for me? Who will I become? Will I find my happiness. Once I leave school, what do I do? I know I'll have my career to look forward to,but there are literally working professionals who live with their parents. I don't have that. No safety net. That sense of reality always gets to me. I don't want to be a burden on anybody. That's why I'm always taking extra shifts and always looking out for paid internships. I feel that I constantly need to be prepared for the what if's. It's  because I don't get care packages in the mail,or money being deposited in my bank account once a month. I have to do for self. I guess it's the fear of the unknown. People who meet me and get to know me always say I am so mature, or that I'm wise beyond my years. Trust me it's not because I want to be. It's because I have to be. I had no choice but to grow up fast. There was no one looking out for me. I honestly can't afford to fuck up. I need to call Miss Lauren, but I don't want to be a bother. I am no longer her responsibility. I was still lost in my thoughts, and before I knew it I was in front of the stairs of my dormitory. I started walking up,and right before I went for the door knob it was yanked open. It was Nicki with her letter, and a big smile on her face.

"Girl! I've been trying to reach you. What's going on with your phone?" She asked excitedly.

"Nothing,I had turned it off at work. I guess I must've forgot to turn it back on." I say as I walk into the lobby.

"I spoke to Carmen, and she said that we all got letters from Aubree and an invite to a lovely tropical destination,Bruzeel" she's finishes with an accent shimmying her shoulders. "This is great. Just what I need." she adds.

"That's exactly what Carmen said." I chuckle at her antics.

"Shoot, this is what we all need. I've gotta call my parents to see if my passport is still good." She says grabbing my hand and dragging me to Carmen's apartment.

Knock,Knock,Knock...

I had just gotten out of the shower when I heard a knock on my door. I pulled my towel tighter. Walked down my hallway and looked from behind the wall.

"Who is it?!" I answer as the water starts to drip onto the floor.

"Hey it's Nicki and Melly. Are you busy?" Nicki asked excitedly.

I walked over to the door to let them in. I see that Nicki has a paper in her hand, and that Melly looks a little perplexed.

Is this girl carrying the letter around,oh my God...

"Oh man we can come back later." Melly said.

"No,y'all good. I'll go put something on real quick. What y'all wanna talk about?! I see you got Aubree's letter with you Nicki!" I yell as I enter my bedroom.

"Yea,and I have something to tell y'all too." Melly says.

I came back into the living room buttoning my jeans. Both Nicki and I now looking at Melly with questionable gazes.

"So what's up?" I asked sitting down on my couch.

"Well I was gonna start off with this whole Aubree letter thing, but since Melly has something to say let's start with that." Nicki exclaims.

We both give our undivided attention to Melly.

"Speaking of Aubree,I had the pleasure of talking to her this morning."
