As soon as Lucas said that it sent chills down my spine.
"Oh but I do and I will be here every step of the way."
His words kept repeating in my head and it felt as I couldn't think about anything, but what he said.
"Well then you are in it for one crazy adventure,"I scoffed and shook my head.
"I do love crazy adventures," Lucas smirked at me.
Suddenly I hear a bell ring and begin to look around. How long have we been out here?
"What time is it?" I ask and Lucas checks his phone.
"It is 3:00 pm," He replies and puts his phone away.
"Oh my gosh how long were we out here?" I say shockingly and stand up.
"Who knows," Shrugging his shoulders he gets up too and grabs my hand.
I look down out our locked hands and begin to blush. Just as I am about to say something about it he gives me a 'seriously' look and I keep my mouth shut.
My cheeks begin to turn redder at the thought of him actually wanting to hold my hand. I let out a soft giggle as we walk around the school, but quickly shut my mouth.
What am I doing? Why am I opening up? This is how you always get hurt! You can't trust anyone. But Lucas is different! He isn't like everyone else! The cowboy actually cares about me..
"Lucas! Maya!" Farkle shouts and highs over to us.
"Where were you guys?" He questions out of breath.
"They same place you left us at," Lucas smirks at me and I blush lightly.
Stop it cheeks!
"For almost two hours?" His eyes grow wide and I nod.
"Yes Farkle, for almost two hours," I repeat.
He nods slowly then looks down at our hands. Gasping he looks from Lucas to me to Lucas to me, until I snap him out of it.
"Farkle!" I clap my hands in front of my face.
"You two were holding hands," Farkle gasps again.
Rolling my eyes I begin to walk away. I need to be home soon, so nothing bad will happen..
"Maya where are you going?" Lucas catches up to me.
"Home. Where else?" I stop and turn toward him.
"H-home?" He stutters and I sigh.
"Yeah h-home," I mock him.
"Let me take you home," Lucas replies and puts his hand on the small of my back.
"What about Farkle?" I ask and look back to see no Farkle.
"Never mind," I add and we continue to walk.
Soon we make it to the subway station and enter the subway. I sit down with Lucas sitting right beside me and I look around the subway cart. I see a familiar brunette sitting next to a red head girl laughing their heads off. Oh look the one and only Riley Matthews..
I fee Lucas' hand grab mine and squeeze it gently. Smiling I look back to see Lucas smiling at me.
"Hey don't worry about them," He said softly and my smile grew bigger.
"Okay," I whisper and look at our hands.
Pretty soon the subway comes to a halt and we exit off of it quickly. I look back and see Riley staring straight at me and glaring like there is no tomorrow. Rolling my eyes I turn back around and grab his hand tighter.
Once we have made it out of the station we head toward my apartment which is right across the street. We walk across the street and begin to walk up my stairs until I stop him.
"Thank you for walking me here, Lucas," I sigh and look at my apartment.
"Anything for you, Maya. Are you going to be okay?" He says the last part worriedly.
"I will be fine Lucas. I always am okay," I reply and begin to head toward my door.
"Maya don't start blocking me out and lie to me, because you and I both know that you aren't always okay. No one is," he says seriously and I turn around.
"Bye Lucas," I quickly say and open the unlocked door.
Closing it I lean against it and take a deep breath. Shaking my head I quietly head to my room.
"What took you so long? An all to familiar voice spats.
"The subway had to stop," I reply and turn around to see him standing there raising and eyebrow.
"Tell me the truth!" Mike shouts and grabs a fistful of my shirt and lifts me up.
"I- I am!" I screech and he draws his hand back and gets ready to strike.
Just as his fist is about to collide into my face I hear a door open and footsteps.
"Guys I am home!" My mother says softly and Mike instantly puts me down.
"Hello sweetie!" He says kindly while telling me to keep my mouth shut about earlier. The usual..
"Hey mom," I try to sound as calm as I can.
Mike walks into the kitchen and begins to talk to my mother, so I quickly go into my room and close the door.
Sighing I go over to my window and look out of it. Why can't my life ever be happy? Is there such a thing as being happy? I am just worthlessness and broken. Nothing special..
