Chapter 25

As I stepped out the elevator, I was greeted by hundreds of pairs of eyes staring at me. The music was blasting out of the speakers and I could hear the clink of glasses at the bar on the far side of the room. There was a dance floor filled with tapping feet and swaying hips. There were pool tables, sofas and a big glass window looking out into the New York night.

Before everything, I would have gotten nervous and ran out but I felt a sudden burst of confidence flow through me as I walked down the stairs to the party.

"You look beautiful y/n, Pepper certainly chose well with the outfit!" Tony smiled as I reached where the Avengers were sitting.

"Really guys, I am so confused right now, I got back a week ago... what's all this about?" I asked "and Pepper totally chose well" I added appreciatively.

"I may have told them that it was you birthday..." I heard Peter say guiltily from behind me.

"Peterrr... you know I don't like fuss on my birthday, you didn't have to do this!" I smiled as I turned around

"I know but I didn't want you to go through the rest of your life without having a single birthday party... and you're sixteen now!" He answered "Happy birthday!" He added, hugging me.

"Thank you, it does mean a lot"

"Do you want a drink? I know we can't drink yet but can I get you a f/s (favourite soda)?" He said awkwardly after pulling away, rubbing the back of his neck.

"That would be great!" I smiled as he walked away towards the bar.

I turned back round to see all the avengers with their eyebrows raised.

"Shutup, seriously... stop" I snapped "it's nothing!"

"Well, if its nothing then that means I can set you up with some friends" Tony chuckled.

"Come on Tony, leave her alone it's her birthday" Rhodey sympathised

"Yeah, I'm ok thanks," I tried to say confidently dispite the blush creeping into my cheeks.

"Y/n! I think it's time for some presents!" Thor boomed, pushing me gently onto one of the sofas.

Everyone had got me something, even Dr. Cho, who I had only ever had a few conversations with. I got a beautiful gold necklace with a glistening emerald dangling on the chain from Nat and Wanda. I also got other gifts such as books from Steve and Bruce because they knew I loved reading, a new smartwatch that held my new suit from Tony and a lovely notebook from Bucky. Everyone else gave really nice gifts too.

"Aww guys, this is amazing, you really didn't have to" I smiled, I was so happy.

"Here you go  it's not much but I hope you like it" Peter stuttered

It was a small black box, I held it in my hand, wondering what it could be.
I opened it up and stared in awe at what was inside. It was a beautiful gold ring, with black jewels dotted around the outside. On the lid of the box was a small note.

Dear y/n,
This is a promise ring. I promise that I'll always be there for you. I'll be by your side no matter what.

"Oh my gosh Peter! It's perfect! Thank you!" Tears creeped into my eyes as I slipped the ring onto my right ring finger. I embraced him in a warm hug.

"Lady y/n, I haven't given you my present yet" Thor's loud voice broke the moment. I slowly pulled away from Peter but before I could turn round and accept yet another present, I heard a voice I thought I'd never hear again...

"Hello sister..."

I swiveled round more tears pricking at my eyes.

"L...loki? I... I thought you were dead!" I trembled with happiness. The others, except Thor and Peter, were looking warily at my brother, as if he could murder one of them at any moment. I mean he probably could, but I didn't think he would right now. Using my mind I told them to stand down, he was my brother after all.

He stood there awkwardly, knowing how badly he affected the people surrounding him. To break the tension, I ran and hugged him. I remembered very little of my time with him, being a baby then. But I knew he was an amazing brother during that time. He seemed to be surprised at first but he soon hugged me back.

"Its so good to see you! This is the best birthday present ever!" I squealed making everyone smile. It was a miracle. My brother was alive, and he was standing right infront of me, and I couldn't believe my eyes.

We spent the rest of the night laughing and talking and singing and dancing. It was the best birthday I could ask for and I hoped they knew how grateful I was.

Someone tapped gently on my shoulder so I turned round to be met with Peter's warm hazel eyes. He was smiling at me with his hand out.

"Would you like to dance, m'lady?" He put on a posh English accent which made me giggle as I placed my hand in his.

"Of course, kind Sir" I played a long and he pulled me up. I noticed that the music had changed to a slow song. Looking over to the DJ I saw Clint talking to her. Of course it was Clint, who else would it be? We walked over to the dance floor and he spun me round, placing his hands on my waist, making me giggle again. I moved my arms so they were round his neck and started swaying along to the music.

"You look beautiful tonight, not that you don't normally, because you're always gorgeous but umm..." He stuttered as I laughed at his cuteness.

"You don't look too bad yourself" I smiled

"I need to tell you something, meet me in the roof in half an hour" his voice made me happy, I was the luckiest girl in the world to have such an amazing friend. I was excited, what did he want to tell me? The song ended and I went to tell Nat and Wanda.

"Oh my god, This is it, he's going to tell you he still likes you!" Wanda squealed.

"What do you mean still likes me?"

"Well everyone knows that he liked you before... well you know, but there was also that fight between you two-" Nat started

"Who told you about the fight?"

"He was distraught for days afterwards, blamed it all on himself, cried for nights on end. It was hardly a secret"

"Oh god, oh no, this is all my fault, I have to ruin everything don't i?"

" Y/n stop, he is going to tell you he still has feelings, I know it! " Wanda smiled before taking a sip of her drink.

"No he's not, definitely not"

He wasn't going to was he?
