After I get off the bus and start walking towards my home I see my mom's car outside. She doesn't get off of work until a couple of hours. Confused, I open up the door and lock it behind me with my eyebrows furrowed. I take my shoes off, placing it on the shoe rack, and search the house for her.

I go to the kitchen, nope.

The dining room; nope.

The living room; yay.

As I approach my mom, I see Selena comforting her and quiet sniffling. My heart nearly breaks at the sight, I hate seeing people sad.

I slowly creep over to her and sit down awkwardly. I was never good at these situations, I would usually avoid them and carry on. Selena glances at me but then quickly returns her gaze to our mother.

I don't know what to do. Should I hug her? Hold her hand? I'm so awkward it kills me.

"Mom?" My voice is shaky

"Yeah?" She keeps her head down in her hands and her voice is quiet and not loud how it usually is

"What's wrong? Why are you crying?" I play with my fingers since I don't know what else to do

"I got fired from my job." She starts sobbing again

My heart shatters. That was her dream job as a little kid; now it's gone. She always told us to follow our dreams but now she can't follow hers, they took it away.

She starts crying really hard and runs upstairs to her room, slamming the door. I wipe a tear that escaped my eye without permission and scoot closer to Selena. She looks sad and a little angry.

"Selena what's going to happen to us? Most of our money came from her job! I know Dad has a job too but, he can't do this for all of us!" I say quickly panicking

She stares outside the window and then moments later, looks at me.

"I don't know. I really don't know Lily." Her lip trembles meaning she's about to cry

"Are we going to move?" I look down. I don't want to move, I'll be away from Luke.

We need to stay.

"I don't know, maybe, if we can't get money to pay for this house." Selena rubs her temples.

"Can you get a job? Maybe work somewhere part time?" I look up at her with hope in my eyes

"Yeah, if I can find one and they hire me." She lets out a humorless chuckle

"You'll find one. I believe in you." I smile a small smile

"Thanks." She opens up her arms and I hug her

"Oh! We can have a yard sale!" I clap my hands excitedly

"Also a book sale! We have tons. Plus I hate books." She scrunches up her lips

"Maybe even a bake sale? Liz has a book and said we can borrow it anytime." I shrug

"Woo! We have a plan." We high-five each other and I smile at her

"You know, I should get to my homework." I point out and stand up to go up to my room and start my homework

"I'm going to clean down here!" She shouts as I enter my room

I close the door behind me and jump on my bed that is now messed up. I grab my headphones and plug it in my phone and play All Time Low. I grab my book and start writing down answers that I already know.

After about 10 minutes later I already finished my homework and triple checked it, making sure all the answers are right.

It's what I do.
