Part 1: Chapter 4

The rest of the school day went by fast. It was now lunch time and after lunch they'd have one class left, then it was off to detention for me. Whenever I walked into the cafeteria I saw Maya waiting for me by the lunch line.

"Hey, Maya." I greeted her but she didn't return the greeting. Instead she grabbed my arm and pulled me into the lunch line with her. "Dang Maya, why are you in such a hurry?"

Maya grabbed two plates for her and I.
"I know how I am going go get detention. "

"What are you going to do?" I asked her suspiciously. Maya had a wild look in her eye, she usually gets that look when she is going to do something devious.

"I am not going to pay for my lunch today."

"So you're going to steal it?"

Maya nodded her head while grabbing her food. "Maya! You can't steal, I know you use to but that will surely give you more than a month of detention."

Maya shrugged. "Like I said earlier Riles, I am so use to detention. I will be fine with it."

"I cannot let you steal again Maya. We still have a hour and a half before detention. You can come up with another way to get it by then, but please don't steal."

Maya looked at me for a long time before responding. "Alright I won't steal anything. But do you got $5, I left my lunch money at home."

"Yeah here's some money." I grabbed money out of my wallet and handed some to Maya. After we got done paying for our lunch I followed Maya to go sit at our usual spot. When we walked over to the table it was already taken by Lucas and Farkle.

I had totally forgot they sat with us at that table last year. Maya must have forgotten too so we decided to sit at the table in front of it. "I didn't know Farkle and Lucas worked things out and are friends again." I told Maya as I began eating.

"They aren't. Do you seriously believe Lucas could forgive Farkle so easily after what happen last year. " Maya was staring at Lucas and Farkle which made me feel uncomfortable, because I could hardly look at one of them without the memories coming back, let alone both of them.

"Thats true. I mean, I sure wouldn't be able to forgive him."

Maya looked at me and for the first time today she got serious. "You won't ever forgive any of them from what happened last year. "

It was strange talking about last year. Just last year I had met Lucas Friar, just last year I had my first kiss, just last year I went on my first date, just last year I saw all my friends true colors and now that's why this year I only have Maya.

"How does that sound, Riles?"

I snapped back into reality. "I'm sorry, what?"

"Day dreaming again? " Maya asked while she played with her corn.

"Yeah, I've been daydreaming a lot lately.
But what were you talking about before?"

"I was saying, I have found another way to get detention."

"What is it?"

Maya got a spoonful of corn and grinned. "I'll start a food fight."

Before I could tell her what I thought about the plan she threw the corn at the back of Lucas's head. Lucas turned around almost immediately and he looked at me. I looked away and turned to Maya, who was loading her spoon up with more corn.

"Hey, Hart. I don't want any trouble. Stop throwing corn. " Lucas said firmly.

Oh his country accent still makes my stomach flip-flop and his eyes still sparkle every time he looks at me. No, stop it Riley. He hurt you, he lied to you, he isn't the guy you thought he was. Just remember last year, remember falling down...down...down

"I'm sorry, Friar. Did you say you want me to throw more corn?" Maya threw the second spoonful of corn, but instead of it hitting Lucas it went straight to Farkle.

Farkle turned around slowly with his mouth opened. "What was that for?"

"The spoon slipped, I didn't mean to hit you." Maya said putting the spoon down.

"Right, and I don't mean to do this." Farkle grabbed his peas and threw them at Maya.
Before I know it Maya, Lucas, and Farkle are throwing food back at each other. Lucas has grapes and goes to throw them at Maya but he misses her and they hit me. I grabbed my grapes and was about to throw them at Lucas when a hand grabbed my arm, making me stop.

I turned to see who it was. "Lucas, Maya, Farkle, and Riley, you all have detention for a month for having a food fight. What has gotten into you all today? Hopefully sometime in detention will change you attitudes." My dad said and let go of my arm.

As he was walking off the lunch bell rang, notifying us that lunch was over. Maya was cleaning herself off and Lucas had left quickly. Farkle walked up too Maya and I and he looked at Maya. "I hope you're happy, you finally got detention."
