I woke up much more early then usual. It was around six am and I tried going back to sleep, but I couldn't. I decided to go ahead and get ready for school, since I had nothing else to do.
My mom was passed out on the couch. That wasn't really unusual, sometimes she would get really tired when she got back from her night job and just fall out anywhere. I got a blanket from the closet and unfolded it on top of her.
Once I got done getting ready I headed out. Sure, it was still to early to get into the school, but it doesn't hurt to wait.
I got to school around seven fifteen and the doors open at seven twenty. I sat on the steps of the stairs and watch kids get out of the cars in the carpool line.
I was surprised to see Brandon when he approached me. Usually he came in late, but not today.
"Maya. We need to talk." He said, grabbing my hand and jerking me to him.
I rolled my eyes. "Not this again, that seems like something you just love doing in the passed two days."
"Not like that. I want to know why Farkle has challenged Lucas to a fight?"
Confusion plastered my face. "What do you mean? What fight?"
"You haven't heard about it yet? Farkle told Lucas that they were going to fight this morning after first period."
I shook me head. "You're joking, right?"
"I am being dead serious, Maya." Brandon looked at me. "Do you really think they are going to fight?"
"Of course not. Farkle wouldn't do something like that, especially to one of his best friends. "
Brandon watched Farkle depature from the car that dropped him off. "Well, it never hurts to find out."
I nodded and walked up to Farkle. "Hey, Minkus."
Farkle looked over to me when I called him. "Yeah?" he asked.
"What's up with this rumor that Friar and you are going to fight."
"It is not as rumor. I plan on fighting Lucas this morning."
I laughed. "You must be out of your mind. He would squah you in a second. And what's your reason to fight?"
"Well, Maya. Farkle does what Farkle wants."
"Farkle better watch out and don't bring Riley into this. I don't want her getting hurt." I coldly told him.
"She's going to find out when she hears people talking about it."
I shook my head. "I don't care, do not talk to her, Minkus."
Farkle went to go say something, but the bell rang indicating it was time for school to start before he could. He walked passed me and into the school.
I caught up with Brandon by the lockers. "Are they fighting?" He asked me.
I nodded and said "Yup" before walking into class.
Riley walked into the classroom a few minutes later and she looked confused.
The confused facial expression went away once she saw Brandon sitting on top of her desk, like usual."Riley." Brandon said as she approached the desk.
"Rebel. I need my desk." Riley said as she walked closer to the desk.
"Of course, you always do." Brandon got off her desk and walked in front of me.
Brandon got close to me and whispered "Do you think we should tell her?"
I looked at Riley, who was looking at me, and shook my head. Riley went to go say something, but Mr.Matthews walked into the class and began the lesson before she could.
Lucas walked into the classroom in the middle of the lesson. "Mr.Friar, you're late."
Lucas took a seat at his desk. "I know, sir. It's just-" Lucas quickly glanced at Farkle. "I got caught up in."
Mr. Matthews nodded and resumed the lesson. I kept watching Farkle throughout class to make sure he didn't talk. Since he wasn't talking, someone had to answer the questions that the teacher asked, so I decided to answer them.
People around me stared, because I rarely ever pay attention in class, so how would I know these answers? Hey, I do have a textbook and do get really bored sometimes and I can read.
It was obvious that Lucas was nervous about the fight, but I don't know why. Lucas could beat Farkle to a pulp, no offense to Farkle, but he wasn't really fit while Lucas was. Maybe it was the fact that just fighting had him iffy, fighting didn't really seem like Lucas' thing.
When the class bell rang everyone got up out of their seats and to their next class or to go see the fight that was about to unravel. I stayed in my seat, because I knew Riley would too.
Just as I thought, once Riley looked at me she stayed in her seat.
"What is it?" Riley asked me, her face was full of confusion.
I debated with myself, should I tell her about the fight or just keep her locked into the room till it ends?
Riley was staring at me, waiting for an answer so I decided to tell her the truth.
"Riles, I am going to tell you something, but you must not get involved." I told her.
Riley nodded and responded with "I won't"
Slowly, I told Riley "Well, Farkle planned to have a fight with Lucas after class."
Riley was stunned for a minute, then she finally asked "Why?!"
"I, um, actually don't know. I just know that Farkle threatened Lucas and know they plan to fight, right now."
"Right now?!" Riley jumped out of her desk and towards the door. "I can't let them fight!"
I stopped her at the door. "You said you wouldn't get involved, remember?"
"So you're just going to let them fight?!"
I nodded. "Uh, yeah."
"Well I can't let them. I know I promised, but they are my friends." Riley told me before she left the room to go stop the fight.
I tried calling after her but she ignored me and went on. I chased after her, but by the time I got near the stairs students were croweded around the staircase.
Riley was in between Farkle and Lucas trying to make them stop fighting when Brandon showed up beside me.
I looked at him before telling him "I am going up there to stop Riley and the fight."
Brandon pulled me back. "No, you can't. You'll get hurt up there."
"Then why don't you go up there and get her?" I asked him
"Its better then you going up there and getting hurt. I will be right back." Brandon said to me before he walked towards the staircase.
While Brandon went to go get Riley out of the fight, I went to go look for Mr.Matthews. He would stop this mess.
Just as I thought, Mr.Matthews was in his classroom. "Mr.Matthews come quick, there's a fight an--"
I was caught off in mid sentence by the screams of students. Mr.Matthews and I both looked at each other before running into the hall to see what had happened.
