9. Butterflies

Merella's POV
I was so excited to see Camilo that I didn't sleep at all last night. I had heard the news about how when Mirabel put the doorknob into their house that the whole thing light up. I felt so happy for her. My heart did flips just thinking of last night. I skipped up to the house of the Madrigals and was quickly let in by the casita itself. I laughed and thanked it. At first I went up to Mirabels room to just say hi, but I
bumped into someone I didn't recognize.

"Oof sorry about that." a tall lanky man said. He extended his hand to help me off the floor. "I'm Bruno."

"Merella." I reply shaking his hand. He kinda just stares at me then just walks away. I laugh to myself and open Mirabel's door. She's on her bed adding something to her skirt. I leaned in and watched as she carefully stitched a hourglass surrounded by three rats. She looked up and smiled at me.

"Hola Merella! I'm so glad you're better today." She said.

"Yes me too. Thank you for saving me. Do you think you could teach me?"I asked gesturing to the embroidery.

"Yeah of course!" she giggled. For a couple hours she showed me the technique and we laughed at the amount of pricked fingers that were gained. By lunch time I had successfully added a couple raindrops to the collar of my dress. I beamed with pride looking at it. "So Merella, did you really just come here for an embroidery lesson?" She questioned.

I blushed. "Well," I started but before I could finish Camilo burst into the room.

"MERELLA!" He said while jumping to hug me. I laughed as he squeezed me into a hug. He looked like an excited puppy. His eyes were literally shining.

"Hey Camilo," I said with a smirk. I stood on my tippy toes to whisper something in his ear. He blushed as I said "I can hear your heart beating from here." I teased. He clearly had to take a minute to try to catch his breath. Then he laughed and hugged me again.

"Mi vida, don't mess with me." he said sternly. Mirabel cleared her throat and mumbled something about having to talk with Alma. So she left, and it was just Camilo and I left in the room. The way he looked at me made my back tingle. I looked into his eyes and leaned in close, but before anything could happen Isabella burst in the room. Her new hair looked good.

"Merella I need to braid you hair, please." she was practically begging.

"Of course you can braid my hair Isa." I said with a laugh. She clapped her hands and literally dragged me out of the room. Camilo gave me a wink and just walked in the other direction. Isa pulled me into her room and quickly got to work. Dolores was there too and she was gushing about Mariano. Apparently he wrote some sappy poem about her.

"Oi, Dolores maybe if you miss him so much, just invite him to the party tonight." Isabella joked. Her nimble finger quickly wove my hair into a gorgeous braid, she even did her final touch, which was to add flowers into the braid. Honestly I loved it so much when she braided my hair because Isabella and Dolores were the closest I would ever have to siblings. These moments made me so happy. "Done!"Isa said proudly. Dolores and her took a step back to admire her work. "Ok! Now it's time for a new dress!" They said together. They pulled me to Isa's closet and we rooted through her dresses for a couple minutes until we found the perfect one.

"What is this party even for?" I asked. Dolores told me that her grandma was throwing it in celebration of the family. I nodded and as I stared at my reflection I knew that tonight was going to be a night to remember.

I stared at my reflection and smiled to myself. "Wow this dress really makes my eyes pop." I said. Dolores and Isa agreed. Mirabel and Luisa popped in too to get ready for the party. We all sat together and braided each other's hair, laughed and shared gossip. It felt nice, relaxing almost. We all laughed when Luisa broke Isa's hairbrush. Isa's face was so funny.

"Girls, It's time for the party!" Pepa shouts up. We all laugh and make our way to the party.
