Ch. 15 - Guess Who's Back

Spot's POV: Christmas Day, 12pm, at the front of the campus:

I see Jolene walking with Daphne, when she locks eyes with me. Her soft black eyes stare at me as she does this little wave and smile that makes me go nuts.

I was about to go up to her when Bronze and Ice come up to me and start a conversation, "Hey Spot, heard you and Venom had a little moment last night!" He says playfully elbowing my shoulder. I smile as he continues, "Eh, come on dude! You've been crazy for her for like ever! We want details compadre!!!" Bronze says, shaking my shoulders. Ice pulls him off me as I give in to my friend's persuasion.

"Fine, fine! Ok so after the whole mistletoe thing, I went upstairs waiting for her to follow me. Once there, she gave me two boxes. One of them was this pin," I say, showing them the pin I was wearing on my collared shirt.

The only reason I'm wearing a collared shirt is because for our good deeds, we have to look 'nice'. They awe at the snake pin for a bit while I continue my story, "She tells me to open the next one which is a snow globe of the Brooklyn Bridge-," I say when Ice interrupts me to ask, "Isn't that where you and Jolene went for your Fight Week prize?"

"Yeah it is," I tell them both, who are listening intently now, "Anyways, she tells me to turn it over where I see the words 'It wasn't a mistake' on the bottom." I explain. The guys are both wide-eyed because they know everything about the whole 'It was a mistake' convo. "One thing led to another and..." I trailed off to add drama, "I kissed her. I ran up to her and did it, she didn't pull away or just stand there either! She was an active member of that kiss!" I brag feeling the same butterflies in my stomach as last night.

"DUDE! That's awesome! Congrats!" Bronze says hugging me. It was bone-crushing, but sweet.

"I'm not done yet!" I inform him. He lets me go to hear the rest, "She told me that she's not ready for a relationship, BUT she does want a relationship with me so, win?" I admit, Ice puts a comforting hand on my shoulder as I finish my story, "About five minutes later, I knock on her door and leave her present at her door-" I exclaim only for Ice to interrupt me again,

"The ring with the message in it?" He asks, "Yeah" I confirm.

"What was the message anyway? You never told us" He reminds me.

"It said, What's a Snake Without It's Venom in it" I tell them. They make the 'awe' face as they look back at me expecting me to continue.

"Did she like it?" Bronze questions, staring at me for answers.

"Well she's wearing it right now, showing it off to Daphne. Oh, OH, OH!!! Dude, DUde!!! She is wearing it on her wedding finger!!!" Ice says looking at Jolene, freaking out!

I look and there she is, holding her hand up to Daphne and anyone who looked, giggling and looking at her finger. She looks at me and blushes, looking back to her friends. I almost melt inside seeing her happy with my gift.

Me, Jo, and Race were assigned to go to the old folk's home for the afternoon. Race and I couldn't be dreading this more, but Jolene looks so excited. I can't help but smile at the way she engages with the old people.

I start talking with this war vet who told me all his stories from the army. He then told me about how he kept fighting for his girl back home. He returned after 7 years of service, only to find out that she died in a bombing 3 years prior.

"I'm so sorry sir. That must have been horrible" I sympathized with the man.

"It was, but do you want to know what kept me going after all these years?" He asked getting closer.
