Anastasia's POV:
My head was pounding and I couldn't feel anything below my neck. I was paralysed and in tremendous pain. My mind casted back to previous events, when I saw his beautiful face before I began to lose consciousness. He was all I could remember, his distinct jawline and piercing hazel eyes which sparkled with what almost looked like fear but was laced with an emotion I couldn't quite capture. Who was this man and what happened to me? Who brought me here?
I tried to muster up the strength to sit up, attempting numb the ongoing pain running through my body. I felt my stomach tense and then the bandage getting soaked up with blood. The tears running down my flushed cheeks brought back the memories of that night. I cried out in pain as I remember Henry's harsh grip around my neck and the blood that ran down my face. But that made me think - where was Victoria? She's my best friend, I can't bear to lose her. I think she got shot too. But it wasn't supposed to end like this, if she died I will never be able to forgive myself.
She was the closest thing I had to family. No, she was my family. She picked me up when things got bad and always stood by my side, even when times were the toughest they've ever been. That's why we moved in with each other. To start a new chapter. To create a new chapter, together, and put the past behind us. My past is hidden from everyone, except Victoria. She understood why I had to run away like I did and she helped me cover it up, ensuring what was hidden stayed hidden and couldn't haunt me anymore.
My blue eyes filled with tears and I couldn't hold back the sobs that racked through my trembling body. My shaking hand made its way to the emergency button, in attempt to signal a nurse. As soon as I pressed the button, my arm fell to the bed and I was unable to move once again. My brain was fully functioning but my body wasn't receiving the signals.
I was desperately running away from my past and planning for the inevitable future. The future that I want to share with Victoria. And the thought of not being able to do so crushed me into a million different pieces.
Multiple nurses came rushing in, "she's finally awake" they announced. Many tests were taken as I was left to lay there and try to occupy my thoughts with anything other than the safety of my friend.
My voice came out in whispers, "wh-whe-where i-is Victoria?" I'm surprised they could even hear me.
"Oh Anastasia, I'm so sorry to tell you this but your friend is still in a coma and is unfortunately not recovering as well as you did. You are very lucky, I will call your husband so you two can have some time together, feel free to call me anytime if you need me" the nurse smiled warmly and left the room with her paperwork in hand.
I was shocked. No guy ever acknowledged me let alone called me their wife. "My husband?" I was so confused and it was making my brain feel close to exploding. I closed my eyes to ease the pain and eventually slipped into a state of darkness. My husband...
Shuffling around the room filled my ears, "here is your wife sir, she just woke up but be careful, her wounds are significant and can get worse if not treated properly. Take good care of her, Mr De Luca" the nurse said softly as her shoes could be heard retreating.
My eyes began to flutter open, but quickly shut closed as the lights overwhelmed my senses. Breaking through the silence, other than the soft sounds of machines beeping, the same husky voice called out to me as his hand grazed my cheek.
"Anastasia" he lowered his voice, "you're awake."
"Wha-?"
I was beyond confused. What has my life come to?
