Chapter 4

Ross' POV

The doors open again and Rebecca comes into the light, but this time with another little human holding her hand. She kinda looks like me. She's hiding behind Rebecca, which is kind of cute, but I still don't know why Rebecca brought a strange kid.

Rebecca's POV

I'm guiding Ruby over to Ross. She's kind of shy, that's why she's digging her face into my leg, but when she knows who that person is she's gonna be so excited. Ross is smiling at us, as we stand in front of him. He looks down at Ruby.

Ross: Aww, who is this little cutie?

Rebecca: That's Ruby. ... She ... she's ... your daughter.

Ross: ...

Rebecca: Our daughter.

Ross keeps silent. I knew it. He doesn't want to be a father. I should just go back to France with Ruby and leave Ross alone, but before I can turn around and walk out of his life forever, a smile forms on his face. That's a good sign right?

Ross: I'm ... a father?

Tears start streaming down his cheeks. I hope these are happy tears.

Rebecca: Ross, are you okay? Why are you crying?

Ross: Is that the reason why you left? You were pregnant?

Rebecca: Yeah, I thought you didn't want to be a father.

Ross: Are you kidding me? I would have absolutely loved to be a father. And you know I would have helped you through your pregnancy and everything. How old is she now?

Rebecca: Three. I gave birth to her when I was 18.

Ross: I can't believe I missed three years of my own daughter's life.

Rebecca: So you're not mad?

Ross: How can I be mad? I still can't believe I created such a beautiful human being.

Rebecca: Yeah, she's just like you and she was begging me that she wanted to see her father. And now she's going to. She's just a bit shy.

I pet Ruby's blond soft hair lightly to get her attention and her heads pops up and her big brown eyes look at me.

Rebecca: Here is someone who wants to meet you.

Ruby: Who?

I place Ruby in front of my legs and she looks up at Ross. He's smiling down at her.

Rebecca: Ross, this is Ruby. Ruby, this your daddy.

Ross crouches down so he's face to face with Ruby. She tilts her head to the side a little and looks at Ross.

Ross: Hey princess. I'm your daddy.

Suddenly Ruby's eyes go wide and I could have sworn I saw a twinkle in her eyes. Ross just looks at her with hope in his eyes. Suddenly Ruby slings her little arms about Ross' neck. He picks her up and she wraps her short legs around his worked out torso. Her head is laying onto his shoulder.

Ruby: Daddy, where have you been? I missed you.

Ross: I'm sorry I wasn't there for you princess, but I'm never gonna leave you again. I promise.

Ruby: Pinky swear? *holds her pinky up*

Ross: Pinky swear. *wraps his pinky around hers*

Ruby: *hugs Ross again* I love you daddy.

Ross: I love you too princess. To the moon and back. Just like I love your mother.

I start blushing and he sees it and grins. He places his free arm around my shoulders and pulls me with into the hug.
