Chapter 16

Rebecca's POV

Ruby rushed upstairs into her room and slammed the door. I can understand it. She just heard that her dad was in an accident and that he maybe won't make it. Nathan wants to go after her, but I stop him.

Rebecca: It's okay. I'll go.

It's my duty as a mother to comfort my daughter when she's sad. I run upstairs and stand in front of Ruby's sparkly door, which she decorated with Rydel. It also has a lot of pictures on it from our family. This breaks my heart. I'm about to knock, when I hear the loud sobs from my daughter. I pause for a moment, my hand is still in the air. Tears find their way down my cheeks of the thought of my beloved boyfriend in the hospital with a small chance of living. Then I finally knock. The sobs quiet down.

Ruby: Go away!

Rebecca: *with broken voice* Ruby. Please. I just want to help.

Ruby: *between sobs* How can you help? You're not a magician.

I lean my head against her door and my tears drop onto the carpet.

Rebecca: I know, but ... I know what it feels like to miss someone, baby, and I love you too much to ever let you go through this. Believe me, it's hard, but ... it will get better.

I hear how Ruby slowly approaches the door and unlocks it. I take my head back and look now at my heartbroken daughter. I immediately take her into my arms. She cries into my shoulder, while my tears hit her soft blond, golden hair. After five minute we release from our hug.

Ruby: *between sobs* Can we please go to the hospital?

Rebecca: Sure. Come on.

I place my arm around her shoulders, while she has her arm around my waist and together we go downstairs. The rest of the family is gone, only Riker and Nathan are left. When Nathan sees Ruby he immediately runs to her and hugs her tightly, she snuggles her face into his chest

Rebecca: Where's the rest?

Riker: They're already in the hospital. Nathan and I just waited for you.

Rebecca: Alright. Do you know what kind of hospital?

Riker: St. Alexander Hospital. 20 min drive from here.

Rebecca: Alright. Let's go.

We all go to Riker's car. He's driving, while I'm shotgun and Ruby and Nathan are in the back, he with his arm around her. Riker just wants to start the engine, when I stop his hand. He looks confused at me.

Rebecca: Please Riker. Drive carefully.

Riker: I will. I promised Rocky. I'm not going to let anyone else get into an accident.
