They got to the drive-in and snuck in through a hole at the bottom of a fence so they didn't have to pay. They usually did this unless they were with Darry. Darlene took a deep breath. She loved the feeling of cool air at night. The four of them found some seats near the front and sat down. A crappy beach movie was playing, as usual, but just being at the drive-in was fun for Darlene. Ponyboy and Johnny preferred indoor theaters with real movies, but Darlene just appreciated the feeling of being out. She didn't care where, as long as there was nothing to annoy her or ruin her mood.
"Gosh, it's freezing." Ponyboy complained.
"Why didn't you bring a coat, stupid?" Dallas huffed.
"I forgot."
"Oh please, be nice. Here, take my jacket." Darlene took of her jacket and handed it to Pony.
He mumbled a "thanks" and put it on. They settled down in their seats. Just as Darlene was starting to zone out as she watched the movie, a couple soc girls sat infront of them. That was perfectly fine until Dallas started messing with the redhead, who she had recognized from school. Sherry (or Cherry) Valance.
"Is that the same hair you have down- and these eyebrows too." He was saying.
"Cut it out." Johnny whispered.
"Hey, Dally, leave her alone. Let her watch the movie." Darlene scolded.
He ignored her and set his feet on the back of Cherry's chair.
"Get your feet off my chair and shut your trap!" She yelled.
"Who's gonna make me?"
Johnny stood up. "I'm gonna get a coke." Then Darlene stood up too. "Please take me with you."
"Alright, come on."
Darlene and Johnny got three cokes and some popcorn for them and Ponyboy. As they headed back to their seats, Darlene noticed Dally also getting some cokes. She turned back around and tapped his shoulder.
"I see we've crossed paths. What do you need three cokes for?" She questioned him.
"One for me and one for each of those broads." He replied with a smirk. Darlene shook her head.
"Good luck with that." She walked off to catch up with Johnny.
She sat down and Dally came back shortly after. He handed the two girls a coke and sat next to Cherry.
"I thought this might cool you off." He said. Darlene rolled her eyes. Idiot.
Cherry paused for a moment, then flung her drink at Dallas.
"Maybe that'll cool you off until you learn how to be decent!" She yelled. Johnny's eyes widened.
"Fiery, huh? Just the way I like them." He tried to kiss Cherry. She struggled to push him off.
"Leave her alone." Johnny spoke up.
"What'd you say? What did you say you little sh*t?" Oh, he's fuming.
"Come on, you heard him, leave her alone." Darlene said back sternly. He mumbled "wise ass" and walked away. Cherry turned around.
"Thank you, he had me scared to death."
"You sure didn't show it." Darlene responded.
"Nobody talks to Dally like that." Ponyboy added. The girls smiled.
"From what I saw, you do." She motioned towards the three of us. Darlene got up and threw away her coke.
"Boys, I'm gonna go make sure Dal doesn't get himself into trouble. You got a blade, Pone?" Ponyboy nodded.
