Luckily, the two friends got home safely. Since the sleepover was kind of a last minute idea, Darlene didn't have any pajamas or clothes to change into the next morning. Mary let her borrow a nice matching pj set. It wasn't as comfortable as her usual t-shirt and shorts, but she did think it was a little better looking.
They decided to camp out in the living room, Mary getting the loveseat because she was shorter. They didn't end up getting more than 3 hours of sleep though, talking and laughing amongst themselves. Of course Darlene was the first to conk out. She was used to Darry making sure she was asleep by 12am at the latest, and she was usually asleep before then anyway.
When Darlene woke up that next morning, she could smell coffee and syrup. She stretched, making her arm pop, and as she stood up, she almost blacked out again. Holding onto the arm of the couch, she waited for her vision to return. When it did, she noticed Mary was gone from the dainty loveseat. She decided to check upstairs for her. As Darlene was about to knock on the door, it opened and she was pulled inside.
"Goodmorning, Darling. We have a long day ahead of us." Mary said, frantically packing stuff, like a camera, a couple makeup items, and a couple snacks that were already at the bottom of the tote bag.
"What? Are we going somewhere?"
"Yup! We're gonna go for a drive around Tulsa, and then were stopping somewhere and you can meet some of my other friends. If that's okay with you of course." She smiled. Darlene was always down for a drive. Meeting more socs? Not thrilled, but she wanted to be nice. But that drive. Listening to music with the windows down, not a worry in the world. She missed doing that with her mom.

"Hey," Mary said, "I have something you can wear. I'll give you the closest thing to your style that I possibly can, okay?" Mary was now digging through her drawers and wardrobe.
"Okay, yeah."
After a bit of digging, Mary laid out an outfit of her bed. "So...I got a bit carried away...is it okay if I put you in this?"
Darlene was...a little intimidated by the outfit. It was kinda bright and...short...but she was willing to try it. Mary saw Darlene's worried face and placed a hand on her arm.
"I know I said I would try to find something a little more your style, but I think it'll look cute on you. Just this once, okay? I promise next time we have a sleepover you can bring more of your own clothes."
Next time we have a sleepover.
"Sure. It'll be fun to try something new."
The girls got changed, and Darlene immediately felt the discomfort of the pink dress, tights, and heels. Mary wore a similar outfit but in blue. It suited her but Darlene felt like she looked funny.
"You look great! Are you ready to go?" Mary asked.
"So ready." She smiled through the discomfort of the collar.
