It finally came to the day that Hayley and the rest of Paramore were coming home. I woke up on a mattress in the basement with a piece of pizza on my chest. I was ready for Hayley to be back.
I went upstairs and took a shower. I cleaned up myself and my room. I moved Jack out of my bed, too. Since his mattress was down in the basement, and I slept on it, he had to sleep on mine.
I went to check my phone, and found I had a voice mail. I thought maybe it was Hayley saying they were getting on the plane, but it was from an unknown number.
"Hey, Alex! It's Blair...Ruocco, and I was wondering if you'd wanna meet me. I understand if it's too much considering... Um, just call me, please," the voice mail played. I looked at the time that the voice mail was sent. It was only ten minutes ago. I had to be at the airport to pick Hayley up, but that wasn't for hours.
"Hey, Blair. Where do you wanna meet," I asked. We decided on Lisa's old apartment, which was the one before the one she was murdered in. Apparently Blair had moved in there since her current one was considered a crime scene.
I drove out there right away. I couldn't remember which one was exactly hers, but Blair texted the number to me.
We greeted each other, and she offered me refreshments. I declined, and sat down on the couch. Blair sat down slowly next to me. She sighed loudly, and ran her fingers through her hair.
"Is it okay to talk about Lisa," she asked. After taking in the initial shock of hearing her name again, I managed a response.
"Yeah, yeah. I'd love to talk about her. I can't believe she never really introduced us," I said with a little laugh. Blair picked at her fingernails.
"Yeah, well, I'm- I was the younger sister. The adopted sister. She mainly would just gossip with me. She'd tell me all the details of your dates," she laughed. She shook her head, and looked up at me. "She loved you so much."
"That's cute and all, from the high school perspective. But we fell apart after high school. Things change, ya know," I said. Blair nodded and put a small smile on.
"Sometimes I wish I was still in high school," she said. I wasn't sure if I agreed or not.
"Why," I asked. "Not that it's a bad thing, I'm just curious." I was afraid that I'd upset her, but she smiled. She told me about her senior year. Then about graduation, and how Lisa was there.
"You know, I wanna take you somewhere," Blair said with a big smile. Things had been going so well, I figured why not. I went with her downstairs, and we got in her car.
As she drove, I texted Hayley to make sure she knew I was going to pick her up. She was on her flight, so she wouldn't get it until she landed. It didn't matter though because she was going to get it one way or another.
I got lost in an app on my phone until the car slowed. I looked around and saw there wasn't much around. Some trees, a lake, and a lot of road.
"Oh no, we're out of gas. Fuck, I must have forgot," she said. She put her elbows on the wheel, and rested her head in her hands. "Fuck!" She screamed. I leaned over to put my hand on her shoulder, and she pushed me. I hit my head on the window, and groaned.
"I'm so sorry," she said, and then shoved my head against the window again. I reached to unbuckle my seat belt, but the message wasn't getting to my hands. My eyes rolled back into my head, and that was it.
Freezing water was the first thing I felt as I started to come back. I tried to move my mouth, but there was tape over it. I tried to move my arms, but they were stuck to my sides. And the same with my legs. Blair walked around so she was in front of me.
"This is for Lisa," she said, and then pushed me back. I fell into the water, and she laughed. I kept moving, trying to keep myself afloat. Blair came over and stood next to me. She put her hand on my forehead, and pushed down.
Bubbles flew from my nose, and I could feel the tape on my mouth loosening. I was afraid to open my eyes. Maybe I'd find that I was too far down.
I ran out of air, and I couldn't hold my breath any longer. Water started in through my nose, and started to fill my lungs.
I was pulled up, and I tried to cough. With the tape on, the water went out my nose. It was the worst feeling I'd ever had in my life. After it was over, air was back in my lungs.
"You're lucky I don't tie you to a cinder block and throw you into the deep end," she said. I tried to talk, but the tape wasn't coming off.
She gripped my hair, and threw my head down into the water again. This time I was sure she wasn't going to bring me back up. But I did come back up.
"Rot in hell," she said to finish me off. She pushed me onto my back, and let me float above. I watched her get out of the water, and go back up to her car. She threw my phone out the window, and then drove off.
