Firstly, wow how is this story already at chapter twenty? I feel like I just had the idea and started writing it. Secondly, there's a new Haylex up now. It's called Something's Gotta Give, and it's different from this one. I'll be continuing this one still, but that's going on too. So if you need something else to read, you should check that out. :)
The next morning I took Hayley out to get an engagement ring. I wanted to make sure that Tay knew whatever Jack told her was wrong. We spent so many hours looking at rings. We went to every jewelry store in the mall. I could see the daylight slowly fading away in the skylights as we walked from store to store.
"Do you wanna go home? I'm sorry this is taking so long," Hayley apologized. I swung our hands back and forth as we walked. What happened to 'I don't care if I never get a ring'? I wasn't mad, I just wanted to go home.
"How do you know Tay," Hayley wondered after our moment of awkward silence.
"I knew her back in high school. She's in a band, too," I explained. I left out the part about us hooking up, but I figured that was too much information.
"Oh, I'd love to hear them some time," she said with a genuine smile.
"They probably have a show around here soon," I said with a shrug. If she wanted to go, I was okay with it. I just didn't really want to go.
We started home, and passed another jewelry store. Hayley looked at it, and made a mental note. As much as I loved her, I thought it was ridiculous how much time she spent looking at rings.
Once we got home, I could see Tay and Jack doing jell-o shots in the kitchen. It was only five, but it was never too early for Jack. Tay's laugh was silent, like she wasn't breathing, as she set the glass down on the table. Jack wiped his mouth, and watched Tay.
I set my jacket down on the back of the couch, and looked at Hayley. "Leftovers," I suggested. She nodded, and we both went into the kitchen.
"Oh, yay! Alex is here! Alex, I saved you a shot," Tay slurred. She held up an empty shot glass, and held it towards me. I took it from her, and raised it. She smiled, and pointed at me. "You go, Gaskarth."
I set the glass in the sink, and turned back to Hayley. She wasn't twenty-one for another couple months. A few months, actually. She didn't know what it was like to be drunk.
Tay got off the chair, and stumbled over to us. I caught her as she tripped, and almost fell on her face. Hayley stopped Jack from drinking any more, too.
"Are you guys coming to watch me sing tonight," Tay asked. She smiled big at me. I nodded and helped her stand up straight.
"We need to get you sobered up," I announced. Hayley took her upstairs for a shower, and I brewed some coffee. As I waited, I thought a lot about Jack. He was rarely ever sober, now that I thought about it.
Tay came down the stairs in some of Hayley's clothes, and stood next to me. As the coffee finished, I got a mug down and filled it. I handed it to Tay, and she waited for it to cool. The sweater she had on went over her hands, and they hid them as she held the mug.
"So, how is the band doing," I asked. I figured small talk would be fine until Hayley came back down.
"Great," she nodded. She took a sip of the coffee, and then placed it on the counter behind her. "How's yours?"
"We broke up, but we're rebooting it," I told her. She nodded and said that was great. I agreed, and then we had an awkward silence. She reached out and put her hand on mine.
"I've missed you, Alex," she said. She looked at our hands. "And Jack told me you broke up with Lisa."
"That's not...yeah I broke up with Lisa, but-" I tired to explain, but she pressed her lips against mine. She was up on her tip-toes with her hands behind my neck. She pressed into the kiss, and I needed to get out.
I put my hands on her waist, and pushed her away gently. "I'm sorry," she quickly apologized. She brought her fingers to her lips, and turned away. I looked around to make sure no one had witnessed it. Jack was asleep at the table, and no one else was in sight.
Tay's band picked her up so they could get to their gig for sound check. I was thankful to have her gone. We left awhile later, after eating. We left Jack home with Zack, though.
Taylor, Jeremy, Hayley, Rian, and I all piled into my car, and we went to the club. Taylor and Hayley were still under twenty-one, but we had passes courtesy of Tay.
We watched We Are The In Crowd perform five songs, and then we all went to the bar. Everyone ordered drinks except for Hayley. She volunteered to be designated driver, and I handed over the keys.
Tay and a couple of her band mates joined us at our booth. We were all drinking and having a good time. And then we were dancing along to the next band. And then Tay was pulling me backstage. Then we were hidden in their green room.
Tay was sitting on the large vanity, and she had her arms around my neck again. She traced her finger along my shirt's neckline, and then started down the front of it.
"Kiss me," she whispered. I hesitated, and she looked me in the eyes. "The door is locked, no one's gonna come in."
"Tay, I'm engage-" I tried to explain once again. She put her finger on my lips.
"What's one more one night stand," she asked. She was looking at my lips now, not my eyes. I bit my lip, and tried to get my clouded brain to think. Tay kissed my top lip, and then slightly bit my bottom lip. "I've missed you so much, Gaskarth. You drive me so wild."
There was no controlling myself now. She had me right where she wanted me. I quickly put my hands on her shoulders and gave her a rough kiss. She moaned into it, giving me her approval. I picked her up, and carried her over to the crappy couch.
This time felt exactly the same as when I'd cheated on Lisa back in high school.
