it was late, Polly went to church praying, and Estella lay in her bed reading a book when she heard someone walk down the stair silently trying not to wake anyone...
Estella walked out of her room seeing Ada all dressed up just walking down the stairs
"where do you think you're going," she asked crossing her arms with her thumb between the pages hoping not to lose where she stopped reading, the woman turned around smiling at her
"hey Stell how are you why your up everything ok what you up-" but her endless questions were cut off by the raven-haired girl motioning towards the room
the girl sighed and walked up the stairs into her room sitting down on her bed
"you're dressed up all looking pretty what's going on Ada," asked Estella sighing as she put her bookmark in her book putting it on her nightstand
"I'm meeting someone," she said looking at her hand in her lap
"who?" she asked again looking at the woman
"you can't tell anyone especially not Thomas," she said making Estella look at her in question "when have I ever told anyone one off your secrets...till this day john still does not know you threw his first cap in the cut 'cause you were mad at him," she said laughing making the other one laugh too "what he made me angry and his cap meant to much to him, Polly made another one anyway" she laughed making Estella nod before the stopped, silence fell around them "come on Ada who is it," she asked and she sighed mumbling "Freddie Thorne" and Estella gasped repeating her words "Freddie fucking Thorne really Ada why did you no tell me," said Estella loudly but being hushed by the girl "because of this... you're mad now," she said leaning her head in her hands, Estella sighed crouching down towards the girl and took her hand away from her eyes
"I'm not mad Ada....are you happy with him," she asked and Ada nodded making the girl smile in return "go on meet him be back in two hours before Polly notices something is up," she said opening the door making Ada squeal in happiness Ada walked down the stairs before Estella called out to her again "if he does something stupid I'll cut his face up alright," she said making ada smile and nod before exiting the house with a giggle
the next day Estella left early not wanting to talk to Thomas after what he had said, she sat on the bar top watching Harry brush together the broken pieces that were left, he did not want her to help since she already had one cut and getting cut by Thomas because she came home with more than one was a risk harry wasn't ready to take
"you're doing it wrong harry" Estella laughed at Harry who just smiled while taking the broom in his hands differently, she laughed again before the door made a squeaking noise signaling someone came in
when Estella saw a beautiful blond woman walk into the pub confusion was written on her face
"I'm here for the job as a barmaid," she said ignoring Estella and walking towards Harry who took the cigarette out of his mouth asking "are you mad," he asked and she asked back confused "am I what" she asked, Estella jumped of the bartop making her presence noticed by the blond who turned towards here "do you know about this place," asked Harry and she nodded saying "I found it in and advertisement," she said
she wanted to be 'a new barmaid'
Harry shrugged and said "jobs been filled" gesturing towards Estella "it was in yesterdays paper," she said, Estella sat down enjoying the moment as Harry answer "believe me love, I am doing you a favor" but the blond woman beat him to it "I'm not asking for favors i am asking for employment" making Estella cover a laugh with a cough "your to....nice alright," said Harry looking the woman up and down this time Estella giggled covering her mouth with her hand hoping it would stop but the stare she got from the blondie said otherwise "and she's not" she asked making Estella stop laughing
"Estella here grew up in this city, in this pub....she knows what it is like and i know Estella can handle herself when it comes to drunken men" he said making Estella give him nice smile as a thank you
they argued before the woman took off her hat and took the bucket in hand grabbing every little bucket filled with vomit from the drunk man pouring it into the big bucket while singing, 'how extra' was all Estella though Harry watched in amazement making Estella roll her eyes
"in Ireland my singing made them cry and stop fighting," she said after finishing her little solo
"well i hope you know a lot of songs," said harry accepting her employment
Estella sighed knowing this will be long long weeks with this woman
the woman took an old cloth washing her hands from the vomit before looking at the girl standing in front of her
as she looked up she was amazed by the girl eyes, so blue nearly white making them stand out by the color of her hair, it was shiny and curly laying on her shoulders loosely before the girl smiled saying a friendly "hi I'm Estella and i work here " she said the blond one smiled back trying to copy here enthusiasm and nodded "I'm grace nice to meet you" she said back
