CHAPTER 3: BEST FRIENDS

Tom had managed to ask Sydney for her number.  He stared at his phone. Wishing she would call him for something.  He said what is wrong with you Hanson. Why you letting her get to you like this.  Since when have you been afraid to call a girl. Just call her. But what would I say to her, as to why I was calling.  So instead of calling he just stared at his phone.

Sydney woke up in a great mood.  She laid in bed thinking of yesterday and spending it with Tom.  She was smiling but then she said you need to just forget about this guy and fast. I mean yes he is hot gorgeous and handsome, and his voice drives me crazy, but it's me ok I know exactly how this will go. I fall hard for him, he thinks of me as just a friend, and it is the story of my life. I have to watch him with other girls. I might as well get the dream of ever having him or that kind of life out of my head right now.

She called Judy to talk to her.  Judy asked her if she was still crushing on the new officer.  She said "Judy please don't tease me about Hanson. I know that he could never like me ok. No guy ever has."  She said "Sydney that's not true, lots of guys have asked you out"  Sydney said "yeah I know but not guys I really fell for. Please just don't tease me"  Judy said "ok I'm sorry, but I think he really likes you"  Sydney said "no I think he was just being nice"  Judy laughed.  She said "no I think it's more than that."

Sydney took a shower and then got dressed and went to get her breakfast at Starbucks.  Her brake light came on.  She had had trouble with her brakes and had taken it to a shop, but they took advantage cause she made the mistake of taking her car in without Doug or Harry. They overcharged her and didn't fix it.  So Doug went with her to take it back and they tried say that they did fix it, it must be her driving. But Doug made them redo it.  She said dammit it's only been 2 weeks and here it is again.

She went home.  She walked in the door and sat down. Tom called.  She had put his name in her ;phone and went she saw it was him, her heart about skipped a beat.  She said calm down Sydney.  She said "hello"  Tom didn't say anything.  He went to speak, but then couldn't.  She said "hello"  Tom said "hey Sydney it's me um Tom."  She said "hey Hanson what's up"  He said "nothing I just called to thank you for yesterday, I mean thank you for well I know that you were assigned to help me get clothes, not like you just did it or wanted to."  Tom knew he was rambling.  She said "It's no problem. yes it was work, but I love to shop and had a great time with you."  She thought to herself great why did you say that dammit.

Tom said "So what are you up to today"  She said "well I was going to go to the mall."  He laughed.  He said "The mall huh after you spent all day there yesterday, you must love that place"  She laughed.  She said "yes I do. I go there almost every weekend. Just to have something to do, walk around you know, somewhere to go"

Sydney realized that she was sounding so lame she wished she hadn't said that. Tom said "so you wouldn't."  She stopped him, she said "But now I guess I can't go to the mall, I don't know what to do and I've got to think."  Tom said "what's wrong"  She said "oh these jerks."  Tom instantly felt hot, mad, he was jealous.  He said "some jerk harassing you. If you tell me who it is I can take care of it for you."  She said "no it's not that. It's this jerk mechanic shop."  Tom said "mechanic."  

She said "yes 3 weeks ago my brake lights came on, so I found this place and took it in, and I stupidly made mistake of not taking Doug or Harry."  Tom said "They hit on you."  She said "well yeah but they took advantage of me."  Tom said "What they tried to assault you. Where the hell is this place. Give me the address"  Sydney laughed.  She said "No Hanson they didn't assault me"  He said "oh well you said take advantage"  She said "because I am a woman. They thought they could over charge me.  They gave me the estimate and then when I picked up my car it was 1100 and they told me it would be 600.  And then wouldn't let me pay cheaper price, but then problem is that 2 weeks after I got my car back, it happened again, so Doug went with me and demanded they fix it.  They said that they did, but I must be a bad driver or something.  So they took car back and fixed it and didn't charge me"
