CHAPTER 44: COME BACK TO ME

Tom sat holding Sydney's hand. Kissing it. Kissing her face.

He said, "Baby you are so freezing cold."  He asked for more blankets, and covered her up.  He was caressing her face.  

He said, 'Syd, I need you to come back to me. I can't live without you."

The nurse needed to check her vitals, so Tom went out.  Doug was waiting there.  Tom said, "hey Penhall."  Doug said, "how's she doing" Tom said, "the same. I'm just concerned, she's so cold. No matter how many blankets I put on her."

Doug hugged him. He said, "Hanson, she's alive ok. And as bad as it is, she's in better condition than Harry."  Tom nodded.

Tom said, "How was visiting Harry."  Doug said, "not good."  Tom said, 'after they get done if you want to go in and see Syd."  Doug said, "Thanks"

Doug said, "is there anything I can get you to eat or drink"  Tom said, "no I can't eat"  Doug said,  "Hanson, you know your girlfriend is going to need you, you can't be getting sick on her, you need to be able to take care of her when she wakes up."  Tom said, 'I know, maybe later, right now I feel sick."

Tom said, "What time is it"  Doug said, 9 pm"  Tom said, "tonight was supposed to be our night. After I wined her and dined her, I was going to propose. I have been practicing what I was going to say. I was nervous. I wonder if I would have messed it up"

Judy said, "you were going to propose tonight" Tom said, "yeah."  Doug said, "Hanson here is a real romantic. He bought Sydney the engagement ring, and wedding ring set from their first case back together."  Judy cried.  She said, "oh Tommy what, you bought that set, it was so beautiful. Sydney loved it so much."  Tom said, "I know, I heard her telling you, she didn't figure she would ever get proposed to, so she was going to enjoy the chance to try the ring on. I made arrangements that night. I mean I didn't know if I'd ever get to give it to her, I had no way of knowing if she would ever truly forgive me or want me back. But I wanted to buy it, just in case."

Tom said, "i wasn't trying to rush her into marriage. I mean I would have married her tonight if she wanted, but I just wanted to show her that I want the future with her, share my life with her, be forever with her, that commitment.  I don't know, she might have been horrified."

Judy said, "no Hanson, she will be thrilled, she loves you so much, her dream has been to marry you, since that first day. She wants it so bad.  A marriage, kids, with you"  

Judy said, "Sydney has to come back to us. So that you can propose to her. She deserves that wedding Hanson."  He said, 'I know, I want to give her a dream wedding."

Judy said, "Hanson, you need to eat something" Doug said, "I told him that, Syd is going to need him, he can't be getting sick" She said, "he's right. Which have to say it's not often" Tom smiled.  Doug said, "hey Hoff's that's not nice."  

She said, "Tom come on, you need to either let me go down and get you something, or you go down. At least eat a sandwich."  He said, "ok if you want to go down and get it, and some water."  She said, "ok I'll be back. Doug, you want the same" He said, "yeah thanks."

Judy went to the cafeteria.  Dennis, Jackie and Dorothy were sitting there.  Dennis said, "hey how's Sydney you heard anything" She said, "still the same. Doug and I made Tom agree to eat a sandwich. I need to get it and get back up there."  Dorothy said, "can you tell Doug I'm down here."  She said, 'yeah"

Dennis said, "Jackie, i appreciate you being here, I'm sorry I know Hanson and Judy are being so mean to you."  She said, "it's ok. They hate me. But Dennis I swear, I am praying for her. I don't want anything bad to happen to her. I'm sorry for what I did. I wish her the best."  He said, 'i know I believe you. It means more than you could know that you are here for me."  She said, 'i know you still love her."  He said, 'yeah, I do. But I really do care about you, more and more each day that passes. If you weren't here for me, I'd feel so alone."  He kissed her.
