CHAPTER 12: LIFE GOES ON

Everyone was called into the chapel.  The mayor was there and he informed them he was shutting Jump Street down.  Everyone was already reeling from not having Jenko.  The mayor left and Sydney and Judy burst out into tears.  Tom was going to hug her, but she went to Jay. He actually had beaten Tom to her, it's not like she chose Jay over Tom.

Doug and Harry hugged both the girls, then Tom did.  They had to clean out their desks and box up everything.  They all went to Jakes to hang out.  The guys said as sad as they were that they were closing the chapel, in a way it felt the right thing to do.

Sydney said "how can you guys say that."  Doug said "cause they didn't want to have another captain."  Judy said "yeah but guys this is like not just a job"  Sydney said "Right it's a family"  Tom said "but we will still be a family baby"  She said "no we won't. It will be ok at first, we'll promise to all get together, but then when we get new units, we will be too busy, then it will be once a month then we will be too busy for that."  Judy said "Right and then it will be every other month and then before you know it once a year"

Doug said "Ladies we would never let that happen."  Harry said "Trust us we wouldn't. We need you ladies. Besides Doug loves your food too much"  Everyone laughed.

Sydney said "It's fine for you 4 men, and Judy, but for me it's not going to be. I mean I loved Jump Street. I started out in a horrible unit, they treated me like I was trash, and I thought I was going to just have to quit, but then I came here, and you all treat me like gentleman, and I don't want to go to another unit and be treated like a sex object." She ran outside crying.

Tom got up and followed her.  He saw her on the bench, went over and sat down and hugged her.  She cried on his shoulder.  Tom said "hey look would you let me request that where you go I go?"  She said "What you'd do that"  Tom said "Of course, I consider you my partner, I told you that, that was why I got so upset and used Amy."  Sydney said "Tommy I would love it if you could go to my unit, so that at least I'd have someone and wouldn't have to worry about being harassed or raped. I used to be so scared in my other unit cause the way they talked to me. I was scared to walk in the parking lot or to go in my house"  Tom said "I will always protect you so I will make sure we get transferred to same unit ok"  Sydney said "Thanks"  

She kissed his cheek.  Since the day of the funeral this is the first day she has let Tom hug her, and the fact she felt comfortable enough to kiss his cheek made his night.  He had hope that maybe he would get her back the way it was from the beginning.

They went back in.  Everyone else had decided to leave. Doug had to get home to Dorothy.  Jay had to go help his brother.  Harry needed do some stuff so did Judy.  They all hugged and the guys promised Sydney and Judy they would promise to stay in touch and hang out. They made plans to go to a movie next week.

Tom said "So you want to stay awhile or you wanting to leave"  Sydney had her own car, and Tom had his.  She said "I don't have anything to do. but if you want to leave it's fine. I'll be ok"  He said "no I don't have plans. I'd like to stay and hang out.  I really miss you Sydney"  Sydney said "Tom we've been over this. I don't think it's a good idea to hang out all the time like before" Tom said "I wish I could change your mind. It used to be so much fun"  She said "I know and I miss it, but I told you why. Please stop pressuring me about it. If you're going to do that, I'm just going to go home"  He said "I'm sorry. Please don't go."

Sydney said "Tommy how will you request"  He said "I'll go down to main headquarters talk to the Captain."  Sydney said "But how do you know he will let you"  He said "Well he's pretty impressed with you. Thinks you are one of best cops, so I think if I tell him how you were harassed and scared it will happen again"
