CHAPTER 31: PULLING AWAY

The two weeks passed, So the bet was over.  Tom told her she didn't need to, but she washed his car, and cleaned his apartment, did his reports, but he was one who took her to ice cream every night.  She had mixed feelings about the 2 weeks.  She was enjoying all the time with Tommy. It was almost like it used to be.  But she was also worried that she would not be able to hide that she was really in love with him and never had stopped.  She wasn't ready to admit her feelings yet to him, cause she knew that he would want to move forward and she was afraid of getting hurt. So she decided best thing to do was to keep it to herself.

Sydney, Tom, and Judy and Harry went to the movies on a Saturday afternoon.  Judy said "otto skank alert"  Sydney said "great"  She looked.  It was Dennis and Jackie and Doug and Dorothy.  Sydney was upset seeing Jackie.  She hadn't seen her since that night at that new club.  She said "Hanson did you know they were coming here"  He said "no Doug didn't mention he was going to the movies"  

Doug and Dennis saw them.  Sydney and Tom, Judy, and Harry were in line in concessions.  That is where the guys were.  Doug looked nervous.  He said "hey guys"  Everyone said hi.  Dennis said "hey Syd."  She  said "Hey Dennis"  He gave her a hug and a kiss on the cheek.  Jackie said "Sydney it's so good to see you and Tom together"  Sydney put her foot out and tripped her.  Tom looked a little shocked.  Harry and Judy laughed.  Dennis caught her.  Dorothy started say something but then said "Sydney you look so nice today"  Sydney said "whatever you are wanting from me the answer is no. And Dennis I love you but you have one second to get this skank out of my face"  Dennis said "see ya let's go"  He took her hand.  She said "Sydney I really do want to have peace between us"  Sydney ignored her.

Sydney was upset the rest of the movie.  Thinking about all the times Jackie taunted her, hearing the words over and over in her head, making Sydney crazy almost.  Sydney thought about all the times after Jackie taunted her when Sydney just wished she could die, and would go home and Dennis would try and cheer her up, and let her cry.

Tom could read Sydney pretty good. Tom knew Sydney wasn't even paying attention to the movie. That seeing Jackie probably upset her, making her remember and he was pissed off, cause he and Sydney things had been perfect.  he was really making progress with her. She still hadn't hugged him except for the day at the movies with Chris and Damian, and he knew he couldn't make that move on her, but he thought there were times she almost hugged him good night.  They had a few more pizza nights and movie nights and he ended up staying all night again, falling asleep in her chair.  So he thought things were coming together and it had been perfect.  She was still jumpy around him, if he touched her, but other than that, she was starting to start conversation with him, wasn't as hesitant about it. He knew he still had a long way to go, but was pleased with the progress, and now it was all ruined because of that bitch.

After the movie they went to eat.  Sydney was quiet.  Tom knew that she was going to pull away. He was prepared for it.  Tom drove Sydney home.  The songs on the radio were the only sound.  Tom said "hey um I know you're upset so."  Sydney said "it's fine"  He said "Sydney don't do that. You can tell me what you're thinking. I know seeing that bitch upset you"  Sydney said "yeah it did. She is such a bitch. All the hell she put"  She stopped.  Tom said "put you through, you mean trying get you in trouble"  Sydney nodded.  She meant how she taunted her in detail about their sex.  

Tom said "I'm sorry. So do you want to watch a game"  Sydney said "not tonight I'm going to bed. I'm tired Hanson"  He said "ok."  She said "Sorry."  He said "no it's ok. I'm kind of tired too. And we got a new case starting Monday"  Sydney said "yeah I'll talk to you tomorrow"  Tom said "ok"  

Tom called Doug and ripped him for not telling him they were going to the movie.  Doug said he didn't know that Tom and Sydney were.  Tom told him all the progress that he has made is at a stop now, she is upset again. She is going to pull away from me, put distance between us, I just know it.  Doug said well push through it, don't let her.  Just let her know you understand, and that you are here for her whenever she does want to talk to you or see you.
