CHAPTER 51: FOOLING BOOKER

Sydney's heart is breaking.  No matter how she has tried, she can't convince Adam, and Dennis that Tom is innocent. She feels like a failure, like she is letting Tom down. She knows that someone else fired that shot.  Adam tells her there isn't evidence to suggest that.  Dennis tells her she is in denial, he's sorry but she needs to face the evidence. Think as a cop, use her head instead of her heart.  

Sydney and Dennis got in a huge fight.  Well Dennis was actually quiet, let her go off on him.  She told him that if Tom goes to prison because of this, she will never forgive him. He is supposed to help Tom prove his innocence, but Dennis is so full of hate for Tom because he is jealous, that he doesn't want to find the evidence.Dennis tells her that is not true.

Sydney knew that Tom was losing hope. Whenever he did talk to her on the phone, his voice he sounded so down. Doug had been taking food to him. Tom knew that he could not keep having Doug take that risk.   Tom had told Sydney that he was almost ready to have her turn him in to Adam.  He wanted to go one last time and see if he could find proof and he would tell her when to call Adam.

Sydney was panicking.  Sydney asked Judy if they could go get something to eat.  They left in Sydney's car.

Sydney said, "Judy I need your help."  Sydney broke down in tears.   Judy hugged her.

Sydney said, "Judy I have to see Tommy. He's going to make me turn him in to Adam on Monday. If Doug and Tom can't find proof that this cop was dirty and shot me and Harry, and shot at Tom, then I'm so afraid. Judy I need to spend the weekend with Tommy. I need to be with him. I'm so afraid I'm going to lose my chance to make love to him. Why did I wait, why didn't I tell him I wanted to be with them before all this happened."  Judy said, "you had every right to want to take this slow, to make sure that you could trust he wouldn't hurt you again."  Sydney said, "  But Tommy is insisting I stay away. I can't stay away from him. But Dennis is watching me. I don't know what to do. I need to be with him before Monday, but I can't lead Dennis to him."  She was crying.

Judy said, 'hey I'll help you. Let me think about it and I will find a way to get Booker off your back. But you need to start eating Sydney. You barely have eaten. I know you feel sick. But you need to take care of yourself. Hanson is going to need you."

They ate lunch.  Judy's mom called.  She was asking Judy how Sydney was holding up with the mess with Tommy.  Judy said, "not good, mom I have to go. I'll call you right back I think I'm going to need a huge favor from you"  She said, "I'll do whatever you need. Just let me know."

Judy said, "Sydney I have an idea. I think it will work. It just hit me talking to my mom."

Judy said, "ok this shouldn't be hard, since you are almost in tears all the time, but I'm going to need you to vent to me and blast Tommy for letting you down once again"  Sydney said, "Judy no."  Judy said, "hear me out.  I was thinking I would have my mom call up Adam, when Dennis is there, and ask Adam if he will consider letting both you and I have time off, like Thursday and Friday so that we can get away and go stay at my moms.  I was thinking that if you had a melt down, all upset, crying, almost screaming Adam would agree that it would be a good idea for you to leave town for a few days."

Sydney said, "ok then what."  Judy said, "we will leave and then have Doug meet us maybe an hour away, and then you can get in his car, and I will drive on to my mom and dads. Then Sunday we will meet at the same spot and you will get in my car, and then that way we will be back in town Sunday."  

Sydney said, "Judy you are a genius. I think it will work. Will your mom do it though?"  She said, "yes I think she will"  Sydney said, "ok but how will I get Doug to do it. Tom is adamant that I am not to come near him or have anything to do with this. He's being so stubborn. Pissing me off."  She said, "honey he's trying to protect you. He doesn't want you to get arrested for helping him. He wouldn't be much of a man in my opinion if he let you get blamed in any way for this. So you shouldn't be mad at him."
