CHAPTER 38: HER WHITE KNIGHT

Sydney couldn't sleep, she thought Tom was asleep, so she tried not move and wake up.  Tom said, 'Baby please don't worry."  She said, 'Tom, I'm sorry, I hope I didn't wake you."  He said, 'it's ok. How's your hand feel?"  Sydney said, 'It hurts"  

Sydney said, "Tom I know it's what I deserve, but if I'm suspended without pay for several weeks or a month, I won't be able to make my car payments, my rent."  Tom said, "Don't worry about that.  I will make your payments."  

Sydney said, 'No Tom I can't let you do that."  He said, "girl you are so damn stubborn. But I can be just as stubborn ok. I will make those payments, and you won't be able to stop me"

Sydney, said, 'Tom fine, but it's my responsibility, and it's my fault I'm getting suspended."

Tom said, 'honey you don't know you're getting suspended you just have it in your head you are. It was self-defense Sydney."  Sydney said, 'Tom it wasn't. I started it."  Tom said, 'No she started it, you told them to leave you alone. She didn't."

Sydney said, 'I don't know what has happened to me. I'm a cop, now I'm breaking the law. What happened to me?"

Tom felt bad because he blamed himself. Knew it was because she got involved with him. He was changing her and for the worst.

Tom said, 'it's my fault."  Sydney said, "No Tommy it's not. I'm responsible for my own actions."

Tom said, 'Well don't worry about it. Adam said that you're not being fired, we can deal with a suspension. I mean I know how you feel, how upset and that you feel like you messed up but honey you can get through this. I will make any payments you have."

Sydney said, "Tom you don't need to. Maybe I could go to the bank see if I could get a small loan."  Tom said, 'No you're not doing that. Please let me help you. Sydney, I want to be there for you in every way. I want to be your best friend, your partner, hopefully your husband, your protector, your white knight."  She smiled.  She said, "my knight in shining armor huh" He grinned.  He said, "Well since it's me, and I'm a screw up, I guess I can't be your white knight, but dark knight."  They laughed. 

She said, "Tom you're not a screw up."  He said, "most people wouldn't agree with you."  Sydney said, "I've always wanted a white knight," He said, "I know, you told me that once" She said, "What I did."  He laughed.  He said, "yeah one of our late-night talks" She laughed. 

She said, "Was I drunk? I don't remember" Tom laughed.  He said, "Well you had quite a few." She said, 'So are you applying to be my white knight" Tom smiled.  He said, "yes I am. If you will let me."  

Sydney said, 'Ok I will let you. But Hanson I am paying you back if you have to pay my bills" He said, "Fine but my plan is to marry you, so I hope when we get married you will let me support you."  She said, "Well that would be different, because we would be married, but still, I want to help pay our bills. Or are you expecting me to quit my job, and you be the sole worker in our marriage."  Tom said, "no I'm not expecting you to quit your job. I want to take care of you though" She said, 'I love you, Tommy."  He said, 'I love you more than you could ever know Sydney" She kissed him.

Next morning, Tom said, 'How about I make you breakfast" Sydney said, 'Tom, I can make you breakfast."  He said, "you're injured."  Sydney said, 'I'm not hungry."  Tom said, "Honey you got to try and eat," Sydney said, "I feel sick."  He said, "Sydney please don't worry. I don't think you will get suspended, but if you do, I will take off, and we can be together ok. I mean come on maybe it would be good, we could go out of town on a little trip"

Sydney said, "A trip, like where to?"  Tom said, "I don't know wherever you would want to go. Or we could just stay home, hang out, watch movies, order delivery, play video games, go bowling" Sydney laughed.  She said, 'you had me till bowling" He laughed.  So did she. She said, "I'm teasing, I love to watch you bowl"
