UneditedDaniel's POV
After she left my room, I climbed into bed and I laid there for a couple hours until the sun came up.
I knew I made a mess of things but I never thought she would not choose me. I thought our love was stronger than that.
I guess not.
But I still have to hope that some miracle will sway her towards me.
Gaia's POV
It's so frustrating when they treat me like I'm a child. I'm not 12 anymore, I don't need to be protected and coddled anymore.
I trudged back toward a nearby window, where the view was mostly made up of solely of trees. The leaves looked so beautiful when they turned colors and it's sad that this season never lasted very long.
I felt a hand graze my shoulder, and I jumped slightly.
I whipped my head to the side to see it was my mother.
"Why are you out here when the party is in there?" She questioned, standing beside me to share my view of the trees.
"I needed a break after Ebonie just embarrassed me in front of King Liam." I felt face get slightly hotter.
My mother nodded her head with a sly smile, "Oh, I see. You like King Liam."
I felt my face get even hotter.
"Maybe. But that doesn't give her an excuse to treat me like a child in front of a room of royals. I'm almost of marrying age, no one will ever take me seriously with her around." I huffed in annoyance.
My mom caressed my face slowly, it seemingly calmed me somewhat as I leaned into her touch.
"I know, but you have to understand she's the oldest. She is almost as protective as you guys as sister, as I am being your mother. Your father literally trained her as a young girl to look after you guys. Honestly, I'm somewhat surprised this is the first time she has lashed out at one of you. I am not in any way saying the manner of what she did is acceptable it is not. However, I beg you to put yourself in her shoes." She forcibly turned my head to look her in the eyes.
I was not ready to see her side of things, so my mom continued.
"Give her a little patience. You know better than anyone that she hasn't had the easiest time in general especially when it comes to love. First Malcolm, then Daniel. And I can't fathom seeing your youngest sister flirting with a dangerous King whose country is known for war is a pleasant sight after getting into a screaming match with her ex fiancé only moments before."
I rolled my eyes, she is right but I'm still upset with her.
My mom snapped her fingers in my face, and I saw her angry facial expression. "Don't you ever dare disrespect me like that again. You do not want to be treated like a child, don't act like one and speak with your sister about how her behavior is unacceptable. Don't go pouting in a corner. Now go back in there and enjoy yourself." She stood up, pulling me with her.
I stood up and she hugged me which I returned. She let me go and swatted my behind. "Go, and tell your father I will be awaiting his return in our chambers." She winked at me and I gagged visibly.
She waved me off walking away, "I have four children. We are very active." She laughed continuing on her way.
I rolled my eyes trudging back towards the banquet hall to deliver my dad his 'steamy' message from my mom.
I walked into the banquet hall and found my father straight away. I would be lying if I said the people staring at me didn't make me nervous, yet I continued on my course to find my dad.
My dad was off to the side watching other royals mingle and dance.
I had to approach him diagonally because there were too many people blocking any other way.
As I slowly approached him, I glanced around the room to see King Liam staring at me intently.
We locked eyes somewhat instantly, and his stare sent chills down my spine. I didn't notice I stopped my trek toward my dad when a drunken prince bumped into me accidentally causing me to break our stare down.
The man glanced at me with disgust, and turned around to finish his conversation as if he didn't bump into me. He was going to continue his conversation until friend with wide eyes whispered something into his ear.
The royal who bumped into turned all the way around and fully took in my appearance. It didn't take long for him to recognize who I am.
His face dropped instantly, and his demeanor became somewhat meek. "I'm so sorry! I did not see you there, please accept my apologies." The pale man apologized profusely and I waved him off, going toward my father who was staring daggers into the rude royal.
I guess he caught the interaction.
"Are you alright?" He asked as soon as I approached him. I knew that it was with great restraint that my father did not demand the young royal's head.
"Yes." I answered but I knew his focus was solely on me yet. I waved my hand in his face and he seemed to come out of his hateful trance.
"I am sorry sweetheart. But you are my youngest and so small. He could've trampled you, and as your father it's my duty to protect you." He rubbed my hair and I smiled at him.
"Yes, I know." I gave him a side hug looking at the royals seemingly having a good time.
"Oh, that reminds me. Mom wanted me to let you know that she is waiting for you in her chambers." I had to forcibly restrict myself from gagging, and my father chuckled.
"I love that woman. I am on my way now!" He was making the motion to leave me, but stopped once he remembered something.
"You should leave the party now too. All your sisters have retired to their rooms and if it gets rowdy here I don't want you hurt." He worried, holding out his hand for me to grasp.
I sighed heavily, "Dad, I don't need a chaperone. I am perfectly fine-"
"I will make sure nothing happens to her until she's ready and I'll even make sure she makes it to her room safe with her guard at her door." A deep voice sounded from behind me.
