Day Two
On the second day, dispute among the lords broke out and they were threatening to wage war on each other. I spent the better part of my day negotiating between to childish men who were arguing over horses.
To be clear they were arguing over whose horses were better, when I thought that they were arguing over trading horses between the two.
I was visibly upset when I found out about it.
Flashback
I was starting to get a migraine from all of this yelling going on between the two.
"My horses are faster, and I have a pure breed of horse."
"It's not about how fast they are, it's about how long they live. And I know yours die every ten years, which they barely even peak. Where mines can last twenty five, now that's quality."
I slammed my hand on the table, gaining both of their attention.
I took a deep breath to keep my composure, and it was hard.
I stood up to my full height, and smiled.
Both of the lords were visibly frightened, and said nothing more.
"You both do know that two days ago I was crowned Queen." I looked expectantly at them, but neither one of spoke.
"Speak." I commanded in a hard time.
"Yes, my Queen." They answered in unison.
"So, why am I listening to grown men with valued stations argue over the quality of horses. Let alone threaten to wage war because of it?"
I looked at them both neither could look at me nor speak.
"Do you not know that I have more important matters to attend today? How dare you waste my time? I will not tolerate this childishness. If you come in here one more time with something this petty, I will strip you both of your land, riches, stations, and your horses!" I yelled as my body shook with anger.
"Do I make myself clear?" I didn't wait for an answer, "Get out of my sight, now." I ordered and as I proceeded to sit down and attend to more pressing matters.
Both of the men left with a haste in their individual pace.
It was then that my father entered my work chambers, and I felt relieved to see it him.
"Hello, father." I rose to greet him.
"Hello, my Queen." He bowed, and I laughed at him.
"Ohh, stop it." I told him as I pulled him into a hug, that I needed very much.
"So, how is our fearless queer?"
"Exhausted and extremely annoyed."
"Why?"
"It's the Lords. They are challenging me, and it is frustrating because it's constant."
"It is okay, and I understand. They are trying to push your buttons to see how lenient you are, but you must shut down as quickly as it happens." my father sighed, and readjusted himself in his seat.
"I remember when I first became king, it was a different time. When all the other kingdoms were falling, it was Fairmarsh that stood strong. That is what made it a trying time. Everyone was unsure if Fairmarsh would fall, and everyone began to assume that they could run my kingdom better than I." he cleared his throat before continuing.
"I was very harsh in my first few years of ruling, until I met your mother. Many believe that she calmed my mean streak, but it that. It was through your mother, I learned a balance of being a king and a person. Ebonie, you can get through this and at this point in your long reign you will have to be the most fierce you have ever been in your life to show your able to be a capable ruler."
He stood up and walked over to me, "From what I have heard, you have been caring yourself very well. You have earned the respect of many of the Lords and especially the Ladies of the realm. I have even heard whispers of you being a better queen than I was king and it is only your second day. Whatever you are doing you must continue, then watch the people will fall in line and follow you. I believe in you." I had tears in my eyes, but they were happy tears.
I arose from my seat, and hugged my father. We hugged for a moment, and when we were done he wiped my tears away and smiled at me.
"So, tell me about this Daniel. I have heard you guys have grown rather close in the days he has been here. Is he to be my future son in law? I will not be upset, I will just like to have a friendly word with him."
I laughed at him, "Dad, there is nothing really to tell. He has been very kind to me, and I think I may like him but alas I haven't seen him much since I have become queen."
He started, "Well--"
A knock at the door interrupted him, "Come in." I told the person on the other side of the door.
It was Jason, and I rolled my eyes. It something that my dad saw, as well as Jason.
"Hello, Jason. I will excuse myself now." With that my father left the room rather quickly as if someone screamed fire.
After the door closed it was just Jason and I left in an awkward silence.
I sat back down in my chair and attended to my documents in front of me.
"Jason, is there something you wish to discuss. I have important matters to attend to, I do not wish to appear incompetent to run my kingdom." The bitterness was evident in the tone of my voice.
"Yes, it is just that." I was still looking at my documents, but I knew he was walking closer as I heard the heavy steps he made from his squeaky boots.
"Ebonie, can you look at me."
I continued working, and I heard an exhausted sigh.
"Ebonie," this time he yelled at me.
With that I looked from my work at Jason, and I was pissed.
"Leave." I told the guards, but my eyes never left Jason's. If he wanted to do this now, then so be it.
After the guards left, "Who the hell do you think you are?" I asked him, quietly as I was shaking with anger.
